These 5 Champs Haven’t Had a Skin in Years

Champions Who’ve Gone Without a Skin The Longest

Every 2 weeks, Riot introduces a bunch of new skins to the game. Each champion gets released with one skin, and most champions have at least 2 skins. From time to time, Riot will add skins to some lesser-played champions in League of Legends, but not every champion is treated equally.

In this Mobalytics guide, we will discuss the 5 champions who haven’t had a new skin in a long time. Naturally, the dates may have changed depending on when you view this guide, but these are 5 champions who haven’t had a skin in the longest time.

Most champions on our list don’t have the best play rate. Could this be the main reason they’re not getting a skin? It is definitely a factor, but if you want to play any of the champions on our list, make sure you head over to their Mobalytics Champion page to learn how to play them!

5 Champions Who’ve Not Had a Skin in Years

    1. Skarner
    2. Alistar
    3. Rumble
    4. Vel’Koz
    5. Braum

    Skarner – 1000+ Days

The first champion on our list is Skarner. If you didn’t know, Skarner hasn’t had a new skin in over 1000 days, which is over 2 and a half years! The main reason for this is that Riot will eventually update Skarner, providing him with visual and mechanical upgrades and basically reworking him.

It doesn’t make sense for Riot to make a new skin for him when they will need to change it again when he eventually gets this rework. However, it has been such a long time, and his rework has been in the works for an extended period of time, so I don’t even know when they’ll get around to eventually releasing his upgrade and a new skin for him.

One other thing to mention is that his play rate is relatively poor. Nobody plays Skarner, and he isn’t best suited to the current meta. While this is a small factor compared to the other champions on our list, it is overshadowed by his looming rework.

    Alistar – 900+ Days

It’s been over 2 years since Alistar received a skin in League of Legends, and if I am frank, I am surprised it has been that long. It feels like he got a new skin not too long ago, but I guess I was wrong!

I suppose Alistar hasn’t had the best play rate in recent seasons, where most Support players are picking more consistent Supports that suit the meta. Alistar hasn’t been great for a very long time, and his play rate, while reasonable, isn’t as strong as some other Supports.

One of the additional factors that Alistar has compared to many other champions on our list is that he already has many skins. When writing this guide, he has 14 skins, much more than anyone else. Admittedly, 2 are unavailable and quite “rare”, but my point remains. This could be one of the other factors why they don’t want to create any more skins for him anytime soon.

    Rumble – 900+ Days

Rumble is an ancient champion who doesn’t have that many skins in the game. But some of his skins are good, especially compared to other champions with the same amount of skins as him.

Rumble has never been a fantastic pick, but you see the Rumble one tricks do well on him. He can be played in multiple roles but is usually seen in the Top lane.

Due to his limited play rate and his current state as a champion, I don’t feel that he will get a skin any time soon unless they release a line that suits him. The reality is, unless a champion is popular, it isn’t as likely Riot will make a skin for them.

    Vel’Koz – 900+ Days

Vel’Koz is the 4th champion on our list who hasn’t had a skin in over 900 days! As someone who has been playing this game for 10 seasons already, I remember when he was released all those years ago. I think he has no good skins, which is a real shame.

I cannot confirm this, but it does feel like Vel’Koz, compared to some of the other champions on our list, does have more animations to their kit, which could be a factor when it comes to making a skin. Naturally, the more animations, the longer it should take to make a skin for them.

Vel’Koz isn’t really a popular champion, either. The current meta doesn’t favour him at all, and even though he is played in multiple roles, prioritising a skin for an unpopular champion isn’t going to bring in the best rewards.

    Braum – 850+ Days

Braum is the last champion on our list, and he hasn’t had a skin in 800 days. If I’m honest, I am quite surprised by this. I didn’t think his Pool Party skin came out that long ago, but I guess it has been a long time!

While Braum is currently doing better than usual, there haven’t been any major changes to the champion that warrants players to pick him up over any other Support. There are much better Supports than him, and he relies more on his allies than other champions.

I think there are some limitations when it comes to skin lines, and Braum could be one of them. If we look at recent trends with the LoL skin releases, there haven’t been any suitable lines for him to fit into.

    Final Thoughts

Regarding new skins in League, we often see the more popular champions getting skins somewhat frequently. It is a shame that some champions are stuck with a few skins when Kai’Sa, Ezreal and Lux have a ton. But to remain profitable, Riot must create skins that sell, and they will sell more skins on popular champions rather than the ones on our list.
