TFT Set 8.5 Guide: How to Play InfiniTeam

    How to Play InfiniTeam

Welcome to another in the series of our How to Play TFT trait guides.

InfiniTeam is the largest trait coming to Set 8.5, and it looks to be a very exciting one to play.

Let’s get right into the guide.

If you haven’t checked out all of the Set 8.5 information yet, check out out Set 8.5 Reveal Page!

    How InfiniTeam Works

When you have the InfiniTeam trait active, a portal will open up on the map. Placing a unit on this portal will copy them, creating a weaker double with random items.

The portals will differ on the board every game, but the location will be the same for all players.

Lastly, the copied unit will gain items equal to the number of augments you have. That means at 4-2, your copy will gain 3 items, which is a lot of extra power to the team.

    InfiniTeam Trait Bonus

    TFT Set 8.5 InfiniTeam

InfiniTeam: The InfiniTeam opens a portal to an alternate timeline. At the start of combat, any InfiniTeam unit placed on a portal summons an alternate version of themself with different items. They get 1 for each Augment you own.

InfiniTeam (3): 1 portal opens, 40% Health and Damage

InfiniTeam (5): 2 portals open, 55% Health and Damage

InfiniTeam (7): 2 portals open, 90% Health and Damage

    InfiniTeam Synergy

The InfiniTeam roster has 6 units in total, with a decent amount of traits to flex into. There is only one overlapping trait with Sureshot. Sivir and Ezreal both have Sureshot, making them a perfect combo in the late game.

Here’s a list of the traits you can branch into with the InfiniTeam units.

    • Quickdraw
    • Renegade
    • Heart
    • Sureshot
    • Defender
    • Hacker
    • Spellslinger
    • Duelist
    • Parallel

InfiniTeam has a lot of different comps it can flex into based on what you’re playing. Shen can simply be used in other Hacker teams. Lucian allows you to flex into Quickdraw teams with 2-cost Ezreal or Kai’Sa, and Twisted Fate can be a 4-cost carry for either Duelist or Spellslinger teams (or both).

At the start of the set, most players will likely gravitate toward a comp that runs Ultimate Ezreal, which means there will be a heavier emphasis on Sureshot and Parallel 2-Cost Ezreal.

    InfiniTeam Champions

Let’s briefly go over each Champion in the InfiniTeam trait and what you can do with them.

Note: Some of the Champion images are not updated to the correct images. They will be placeholders for now until we get the correct images.

    Lucian – InfiniTeam + Quickdraw + Renegade

    TFT Set 8.5 Lucian Ability

Lucian is the first entry of the InfiniTeam, and he looks to be an overall solid backline DPS. His kit scales more with AP damage and mana generation (Blue Buff) rather than AD. This already sets up InfiniTeam to be quite a flexible comp as you can effectively use AP and AD items.

The Quickdraw trait lets him synergize well with 2-cost Ezreal (who is now a Quickdraw instead of Recon). Lastly, I don’t expect the Renegade trait to be too impactful, but for playing Jhin or Viego, Lucian can be a placeholder until you find better Renegades.

    Pantheon – InfiniTeam + Heart

    TFT Set 8.5 Pantheon Ability

Pantheon is the other 1-cost InfiniTeam unit, and he fulfills the role of a frontline unit. His ability scales of Magic Resist, which is interesting to see.

Pantheon is a weird unit to evaluate. He can be decent early on, but without a defensive trait to back him up, it seems like he falls off harder than other early game tanks. The Heart trait is interesting as well. This makes Pantheon more likely to stay in comps that want to ramp AP damage and a slow roll target rather than a unit that stays in level 8/9 comps.

    Sivir – InfiniTeam + Sureshot

    TFT Set 8.5 Sivir Ability

Sivir is the only 2-cost unit of the InfiniTeam, and she will complete an early (3) trait bonus along with Pantheon and Lucian. While an early copy of a unit is powerful, I find that the lack of synergy between the traits is a bit weak.

At level 4, you won’t be able to activate any frontline trait, and activating a backline trait makes your team quite weak in the frontline department.

Even still, having an extra unit can alleviate this issue, so I expect InfiniTeam 3 to be a decent opener. Other than that, Sivir is the first unit that scales with AD, making her a good item holder for Ezreal later, and also pairs well with Ezreal for Sureshot.

    Shen – InfiniTeam + Defender + Hacker

    TFT Set 8.5 Shen Ability

Shen is the only 3-cost of the InfiniTeam, and he is the dedicated tank of the trait. His Defender trait will be the main defensive ability the trait has.

The Hacker trait is interesting, as it opens up potential for Hacker InfiniTeam comps. It seems more likely that Shen will be a flex into other Hacker teams where his traits are useful, though.

His ability is quite nice for a tank, and overall, he’s a solid unit that can likely stick into late game comps.

Twisted Fate – InfiniTeam + Duelist + Spellslinger

TFT Set 8.5 Twisted Fate Ability

Twisted Fate is the 4-cost backline carry of the InfiniTeam, and he is the most difficult to assess. He has both the Duelist trait and the Spellslinger trait, which makes him an interesting build question. Do you go more into Duelist or Spellslinger?

His traits also don’t synergize too well with the rest of the team. With Lucian, you have 2-cost Ezreal with Ultimate Ezreal. With Sivir, you have Sureshot for Ultimate Ezreal.

For Twisted Fate, it’s likely that he will exist in other team comps that don’t look to use InfiniTeam units, but it can be a splash to get some extra unit value.

Ultimate Ezreal – InfiniTeam + Parallel + Sureshot

    TFT Set 8.5 Ezreal Ability

Ultimate Ezreal has one of the coolest and most flavorful abilities I’ve ever seen in TFT. Parallel and Sureshot already synergize with Lucian, Sivir, and 2-cost Ezreal, making him easy to slot in late game.

I’m most interested in seeing whether Ultimate Ezreal will be a main carry unit, or be more of a late game supplement to 2-cost Ezreal. Time will tell.

    Best InfiniTeam Augments

There are a lot of different Augments to choose from with the new Hero Augments system.

The Best Hero Augments will change over time as the meta evolves and patches change things. Other than the Hero Augments, here are some general augments to keep in mind.

InfiniTeam Heart / Crest / Crown

Having an InfiniTeam bonus is quite the big power spike in the mid game. If you can hit an early InfiniTeam 5, you have a ton of extra value in two additional unit copies.

In the late game, you can also hit InfiniTeam 5 with strong units like Shen, Ultimate Ezreal, Sivir, and Lucian. Being able to drop Pantheon from your late game team is a big plus.

Lastly, InfiniTeam 7 is interesting, but I’m unsure if it will be viable. It will be fun to see in the late game, having two portals and copying a Fiddlesticks + Ultimate Ezreal seems enticing, but those 2 unit slots could also be stronger units like Pantheon and Twisted Fate, who don’t add too much to the team.

Cybernetic Shell / Uplink / Implants

All of the Cybernetic augments are nice, assuming they work with the InfiniTeam double. The copied unit always has an item on it, so it “should” synergize with the bonus from Cybernetic Augments.

    Double Trouble

This is another augment that MAY potentially work with InfiniTeam. The issue with Double Trouble is that you are forced to add another unit onto the board that doesn’t add much value other than buffing your carry.

If the InfiniTeam duplicate counts toward Double Trouble, the augment will give a ton of value for both of the units.

    InfiniTeam Team Comps

The Set isn’t even out on PBE yet at the time of writing this article. As I was able to play in the Preview, I have some insight, but expect optimal team comps to evolve a lot once the set comes to PBE and then releases.

    InfiniTeam Ezreal Reroll Team Comp

TFT Set 8.5 Ezreal Reroll InfiniTeam Team Comp

    [Link to Builder]

This first team comp looks to mainly use 2-cost Ezreal as the main carry. By rerolling at level 6, you have access to a lot of good upgrades like Vi, Ezreal, and Sivir. Pantheon and Lucian are also good reroll targets. Once you have Ezreal 3, you can look to level up to hopefully find Ultimate Ezreal to complete the comp.

The comp also looks to run Underground in the mid game while you are losing. Once you stabilize, you can look to drop Underground in favor of things like late game Threats (Fiddlesticks / Urgot), or other utility units like Aegis or Brawler.

    InfiniTeam Ultimate Ezreal Team Comp

TFT Set 8.5 Ultimate Ezreal Underground Team Comp

    [Link to Builder]

This version of InfiniTeam looks to use Ultimate Ezreal as the main carry and can also make use of Underground. This time, instead of rerolling for Ezreal, you can look to use Underground to hit Fast 8 and find lots of strong units.

Samira can also be used as a secondary or even main carry as well. This comp requires a lot of strong AD items, but you can still slam AP items on 2-Cost Ezreal.

The frontline is very flexible, and in the late game, you can look to drop Underground and Vi for more powerful units (once again Fiddlesticks/Urgot).

This is essentially almost the same as playing Samira + Aphelios from Set 8, but with more Ezreal flair.

    Conclusion

Overall, InfiniTeam is a fun and interesting inclusion to the game. Of the new traits and units, InfiniTeam will likely be the most popular, so expect to be contested in your games.

We hope you enjoyed this guide, and hopefully it helps you climb some ranks. Good luck and have fun!
