TFT Set 15 Guide: How to Play Luchador

How to Play Luchador — TFT Set 15: K.O. Coliseum

Luchador is a newer trait that gives similar flavors to assassins of the past. Where they are willing to get low on health but will turn fights around by healing and stunning their enemies. This makes their itemization options flexible and strong for melee in the future. I can’t wait to see how this trait performs in Set 15!

Explore all of the new Set 15 traits here!

    How TFT Luchador Works

    TFT Set 15 Luchador

    Luchador Trait Bonus

    Luchadors gain bonus Attack Damage.
At 50% health, Luchadors cleanse negative effects, heal, and leap back into the fight, knocking up enemies in a 1-hex radius for 1.50 seconds.

    • (2) 15 AD; 20% Health heal
    • (4) 40 AD; 50% Health heal

    Luchador Synergy

Here are the additional traits of the Luchador champions that give the opportunity to create trait webs:

    • Gnar (1G) – Sniper
    • Dr. Mundo (2G) – Juggernaut
    • Volibear (4G) – Edgelord
    • Braum (5G) – Bastion & The Champ

    The Luchador Trait

Luchador has a strong trait ability of cleansing negative effects, healing, and leaping back into the fight knocking up enemies in a 1-hex radius. This effect shouldn’t be undervalued whether it be in the early game, but especially in the late game.

The stun will have so much impact in the late game while the heal is especially strong in the early game. The cleansing of negative effects is a game changer as well as you don’t have to worry about anti heal messing up your healing from the ability.

    TFT Luchador Champions

    Gnar (1G) – Sniper

    TFT Set 15 Gnar

    [Link to Champion Page]

Gnar is a Sniper who has the ability Gadagadagada! with the passive of Gain (AP) for each attack against the same target. His active is for 6 seconds, he gains attack damage and grants two nearby allies 35% attack damage, prioritizing attacking champions.

Gnar is unique in that it is a 1 cost game that has scaling late game potential due to buffing other units. In the past, 1 cost units with good tags and abilities that work well in the early game and scale well into the late game have done well and have found ways onto boards. I would expect to see Gnar as a trait bot for Sniper and Lucador due to his strong tags and ability that helps in the late game as well.

    Dr. Mundo (2G) – Juggernaut

    TFT Set 15 Dr. Mundo

    [Link to Champion Page]

Dr. Mundo at 2 gold is a Juggernaut as he should be. If you play any solo queue League of Legends, you know what a menace Dr. Mundo can be, so the Luchador Juggernaut tag makes perfect sense for him. Mundo’s ability Steel Chair Slam he has a passive of every 7 seconds the next attack deals (AD & Health) bonus physical health. His active he gains (AP) maximum health over 1.5 seconds and immediately trigger the passive. It seems that Mundo will have an incredibly similar feeling on the board as he will on the rift.

    Volibear (4G) – Edgelord

    TFT Set 15 Volibear

    [Link to Champion Page]

Volibear is an Edgelord which means he will likely be a premium unit in Edgelords to splash in Luchador which synergizes well with Edgelords. His ability Ursine Instinct has the passive of every fourth attack deals (AD) physical damage in a 1-hex radius centered on the target. When changing targets, immediately slam for a percent damage. His active, for 5 seconds he gains attack speed (AP), omnivamp, and crowd control immunity.
This crowd control immunity is important as you are no longer required to build a quick silver sash (QSS) on him. A previous unit, Olaf had a very similar ultimate ability which helped his itemization be a lot more flexible rather than requiring the QSS. This also helps being able to save QSS for other Edgelord units who will likely need it to function.

    Braum (5G) – Bastion & The Champ

    TFT Set 15 Braum

    [Link to Champion Page]

Braum is the 5 cost champion of the Luchadors and the final champion you need to hit the 4 Luchador maximum. Bruam stuns the target and spins them around for 1.5 seconds, dealing (AD) physical damage to the target and (AD) to other enemies in a 20hex radius. He then throws the target forward, dealing (AD) in a 1-hex area around the target. If the target drops below a certain (AP) health, throw them off the board instead.
This makes Braum incredibly strong as he is a tank with a ton of crowd control that is long lasting and effective. He can be placed in the center of the board to soak up damage and dish out crowd control!
