TFT Set 13 Guide: How to Play Sorcerer

How to Play Sorcerer — TFT Set 13: Into the Arcane

Welcome to our trait guide, where we’ll be covering the Sorcerer trait in the new TFT Set 13: Into the Arcane. In this guide, we’ll explain how Sorcerer works, cover the different champions, provide notable Augment choices, and cover some potential team comps.

Explore all of the new Set 13 traits here!

    How TFT Sorcerer Works

Sorcerer is another returning trait, which is quite common for Classes, compared to Origins which are usually unique and match the set’s theme. Sorcerer’s gain AP through their trait, so scaling this damage up further with things like Ability Crit, Bonus Damage, or Damage Amp are great ways to get good damage.

We’ve seen vertical Sorcerer team comps have varying success in the past, so it’ll be interesting to see how the trait makes its way into the meta.

    Sorcerer Trait Bonus

    tft set 13 sorcerer

    Champions: Lux 1g / Zyra 1g / Vladimir 2g / Nami 3g / Swain 3g / Zoe 4g / Leblanc 5g

Your team gains 10 Ability Power. Sorcerers gain more.

    • (2) 20 AP
    • (4) 50 AP
    • (6) 85 AP
    • (8) 100 AP, Abilities reduce their target’s damage by 25% for 3 seconds

    Sorcerer Synergy

Here’s the other traits you can activate from the Sorcerer units:

    • Academy (Lux)
    • Experiment (Zyra)
    • Black Rose x2 (Vladimir/Leblanc)
    • Watcher (Vladimir)
    • Emissary (Nami)
    • Conqueror (Swain)
    • Form Swapper (Swain)
    • Rebel (Zoe)

Sorcerer is a large trait with 6 units, and the one overlap is Black Rose from Vladimir and Leblanc. Since Leblanc is a 5-cost unit, it will be hard to guarantee finding her every game, but it’s certainly something to play toward.

Because of this, you likely will also want to keep Vladimir on your board to keep the Black Rose trait active.

Outside of that, the other Sorcerer units can all be played with other supporting traits. Or, you can put all the Sorcerer’s together to hit the big 6 or 8 bonus.

    TFT Sorcerer Champions

    Lux Academy Sorcerer 1g

    tft set 13 lux

Lux’s ability grants a shield to the lowest health ally and empowers her next auto attack, dealing bonus magic damage. Overall, her kit is quite simple. If you’re looking for an early item holder, Lux can be a good pick if you plan to build towards an AP team comp.

She also gives you flexibility to play toward an Academy team comp.

There’s certainly potential for Lux to be a reroll carry, but we’ll need more time to test team comps to see how viable it is.

    Zyra Experiment Sorcerer 1g

    tft set 13 zyra

    [Link to Champion Page]

Zyra’s ability does a bit of damage, and also stuns her target. Her damage is also AoE, as she will deal a bit less damage to 2 nearby enemies. In terms of reroll carry potential, Zyra does appear to be more suited than Lux, but Lux’s heal can also be just as valuable.

The Stun is a great source of early CC, and it can potentially win you the fight. Once the game goes on longer, it’s less likely this stun will be relevant, but it’s still something.

Vladimir Black Rose Watcher Sorcerer 2g

    tft set 13 vladimir

    [Link to Champion Page]

Vladimir is the only 2-cost Sorcerer, and as previously mentioned, he pairs with Leblanc for Black Rose. His Watcher trait gives him survivability, and his ability deals damage while also healing himself. This makes him a great early tank as he can try to out sustain any damage he takes from enemy teams.

As the game progresses, this will be harder to achieve, but by then, you can buy other frontline units to lessen the burden on Vladimir.

    Nami Emissary Sorcerer 3g

    tft set 13 nami

    [Link to Champion Page]

    Ability:

Ocean’s Ebb 0/60 Launch a wave at target that bounces 3 times to enemies within 3 hexes and deals 120/180/290 (AP) magic damage.

Nami has a straight-forward ability that deals damage to multiple enemies. Her traits are also “selfish,” since her Emissary trait buffs herself up and only requires Nami herself to activate. You need all 4 Emissary units to activate the higher-tier, and running 2 or 3 will deactivate the trait.

As such, Nami is quite self-sufficient, but also reliant on her numbers. If her damage isn’t good enough, there’s very little reason to run her when there are plenty of other units that provide things other than damage.

Even still, if her damage is good enough, she’ll be a priority pick up to help you coast through the mid game.

Swain Conqueror Form Swapper Sorcerer 3g

    tft set 13 swain

    [Link to Champion Page]

Swain is the other 3-cost Sorcerer, and while Nami is all focused on damage, Swain is all about flexibility. His Form Swapper trait allows you to pick whether he’s a frontline healing sustain tank, or a backline Sorcerer.

Depending on what you need for your team comp, Swain can fulfill that role. In a Sorcerer team comp, you’ll likely need more frontline, so Swain can tank while also dealing AoE damage and healing. In another team comp, you can use him for his traits and more backline damage.

    Zoe Rebel Sorcerer 4g

    tft set 13 zoe

    [Link to Champion Page]

Zoe’s ability shoots a bubble that bounces between enemies and her target multiple times, dealing damage. She’s a fairly simple 4-cost AP carry, and you can look to use her in a Rebel team comp or a more Sorcerer based one.

Rebel is a trait with a variety of units, so you can play a more balanced team comp there. If you want to go all in on AP damage, a Sorcerer comp will be for you.

    LeBlanc Black Rose Sorcerer 5g

    tft set 13 leblanc

    [Link to Champion Page]

Leblanc is the last Sorcerer, and her ability deals a lot of AoE damage. She’ll chain units together, making them take damage whenever another chained enemy takes damage. In a sense, this is a form of damage amplification for your entire team.

Furthermore, Leblanc is the final Black Rose unit you need to complete the trait. Black Rose is the summon trait of Set 13, and completing the trait will give your summon (Sion) a big powerup. You won’t be able to find her easily since she’s 5-cost, but look out for her in your shops if you need a power spike for your team.

    Best TFT Sorcerer Augments

In general, Augments like Crest and Crown will always be good, but there are definitely more notable ones to explore and discover. As we make our way to the PBE, we’ll be sure to test a variety of combinations and update this article with what we find.

    TFT Sorcerer Team Comps

The set has yet to even come out on PBE yet, and unfortunately, our team was unable to playtest the Set this time around. While we can’t recommend team comps at the moment, we’ll be sure to come back and update this article once we have a good feel for things.

Thanks for Reading! If you want to try and come up with your own team comps for Set 13, check out our Team Builder. For a full overview on the new set, check out our TFT Set 13 Reveal Page.
