TFT Set 12 Guide: How to Play Warrior

How to Play Warrior — TFT Set 12: Magic N’ Mayhem

Welcome to our trait guide, where we’ll be covering the new Set 12 TFT trait: Warrior.

In this guide, we’ll explain how Warrior works, cover the different champions, provide notable Augment choices, and cover some potential team comps.

Explore all of the new Set 12 traits here!

    How TFT Warrior Works

    Warrior Trait Bonus

    TFT Set 12 Warrior

Warriors gain Omnivamp and bonus damage. When Warriors drop below 40% health, the bonus damage is doubled.

    • (2) 10% Omnivamp, 10% bonus damage
    • (4) 15% Omnivamp, 15% bonus damage
    • (6) 20% Omnivamp, 21% bonus damage

The Warrior trait is pretty straight forward. The trait grants Omnivamp and damage, which are the key stats you want for melee carrys like Warriors. Since they’re in the front of the battle, having Omnivamp ensures they stay alive long enough to carry the fight.

Depending on your team comp, you can simply flex in (2) Warrior to have board flexibility. If you go up to Warrior 4 or 6, you’ll have multiple Warriors to itemize, but you’ll be lacking in other traits.

    Warrior Synergy

Here are all of the Warrior Champions and their other traits:

    • Akali (2G) – Multistriker + Pyro
    • Nilah (2G) – Eldritch
    • Katarina (3G) – Faerie
    • Fiora (4G) – Witchcraft
    • Gwen (4G) – Sugarcraft

As expected, there isn’t any overlap between the Warrior champions. Every Warrior has a kit designed to be a carry, so having an overlap would make the trait a bit lackluster to build around.

However, there are still notable things to mention. Akali is the only Warrior with 3 traits. This makes her interesting to build around as a reroll carry since you can buff her up with 3 different traits.

Nilah is also another 2-cost Warrior, so rerolling for both of them can be interesting.

Lastly, both Gwen and Fiora are 4-cost Warriors. This lets them play in a traditional team comp around 4-cost carrys. Katarina is the last Warrior without a clear partner, but there can definitely be ways to play around her as well.

    TFT Warrior Champions

    Akali (2G) – Warrior + Multistriker + Pyro

    TFT Set 12 Akali Ability

    [See Akali’s Champion Page]

First up, we have Akali with an “Assassin-like” ability. She will dash around, targeting far away enemies and try to execute them with her ability. Abilities like this can win the fight instantly if you lock onto an enemy carry, but Akali can also dash right onto a tanky frontline unit as well.

As previously mentioned, Akali has 3 offensive traits, making her a strong potential reroll carry. We’ll talk more about this below with Nilah.

    Nilah (2G) – Warrior + Eldritch

    TFT Set 12 Nilah Ability

    [See Nilah’s Champion Page]

Nilah is our other 2-cost Warrior, and since there are two 2-costs, rerolling for both can be a strong option. Nilah and Akali don’t have direct overlap, but other units in the game combine for a strong core.

For example, Nasus is a 4-cost Pyro/Shapeshifter. The Eldritch trait also has two Shapeshifters with Elise (1G) and Briar (5G). These 4-5 units can make up a strong core for your team, with plenty of options to flex into other traits.

    Katarina (3G) – Warrior + Faerie

    TFT Set 12 Katarina Ability

    [See Katarina’s Champion Page]

Katarina is the lone 3-cost Warrior, meaning she doesn’t have a nice duo to pair with. Even still, she also has movement built into her skill, and her damage gives her carry potential.

When looking at the Faerie trait, you have units like Rakan who is a 4-cost Faerie/Preserver. This can pair with Morgana, who is a Witchcraft Preserver, pairing well with Fiora.

    Fiora (4G) – Warrior + Witchcraft

    TFT Set 12 Fiora Ability

    [See Fiora’s Champion Page]

Fiora is our first 4-cost Warrior with an AoE AD ability. She also has a bit of survivability built into her kit, but only a bit. The Witchcraft trait is quite flexible, since you can easily add Morgana (5G) onto your board as both a strong unit and Witchcraft (2).

Fiora also pairs nicely with Gwen, the other 4-cost Warrior to play a dual carry comp. Fiora uses AD items while Gwen can use AP items.

    Gwen (4G) – Warrior + Sugarcraft

    TFT Set 12 Gwen Ability

    [See Gwen’s Champion Page]

Gwen is the last Warrior with a low mana AP damage ability. She also ramps as the fight goes on. Her snips will deal more damage the more she casts, so having an item like Blue Buff will be ideal to build her up.

While Fiora and Gwen make an obvious pair, you can also try to go up to 4 Warrior as well. Katarina isn’t a bad inclusion as a 3-cost unit, but Akali/Nilah might not be worth the spot.

Even still, with an Emblem, you can easily reach 4 Warrior to buff up your main carrys.

    Warrior Crest/Crown

    Crest_Warrior_II.TFT_Set12

Gain a Warrior Emblem and an Akali.

Warrior Emblem is quite nice to have, as fitting in 4 different Warriors is very taxing on your team. Using two is quite easy, and three isn’t too bad, but putting 4 together is very demanding on your board space.

With an Emblem, you can both buff up your carrys while also empowering another non-Warrior unit. This Emblem will grant any unit the bonus damage and Omnivamp, giving you another carry to build upon.

    TFT Warrior Team Comps

As of writing this article, the PBE has yet to even release yet. While I was fortunate enough to participate in the playtest for Set 12, we definitely need more time to test/theorycraft team comps.

Be sure to check back as I’ll be updating this section with potential Warrior team comps. We also will be updating our TFT Team Comps page as our team plays the PBE.

    Akali Team Comp

TFT Set 12 Akali Team Comp 9

    [Link to Builder]

This first team comp is a straight forward Akali team comp. We have Akali and Nilah as the main reroll carrys, with the Eldritch, Pyro, Shapshifter, and Multistriker traits to buff them up.

This core makes up 7 units and is fairly low-cost except for Nasus, making it quite easy to build. Once you reach levels 8 and 9, you can then add stronger units like Briar or Xerath.

Briar is a bit awkward since you now go up to Eldritch 4/Shapeshifter 3, but you can replace Xerath with your 4th Shapeshifter or 5th Eldritch. Or you can drop Elise to make more board space for other units.

Xerath is a nice inclusion for the Arcana trait and as an AP item holder. Akali and Nilah are both AD focused carrys, so having an AP item holder will help.

You can also look to add the last Pyro unit, Varus, as well.

    Gwen Fiora Team Comp

TFT Set 12 Fiora Team Comp

This is a team comp I cover in my Witchcraft Guide, and it’s a simple team comp playing around Gwen and Fiora. We go up to Witchcraft 4 with units like Poppy and Zoe, but you can look at other options as well.

Zoe is nice since she provides three traits for the team, but having 1-cost units in the late game can be a detriment unless Witchcraft 4 carrys hard enough.

You can look to go to Warrior 4 instead, using Katarina for Faerie or even adding in Rakan for Preserver instead of Bard. These two carrys are quite flexible, and you can go a lot of ways building around them.

Thanks for Reading! If you want to try and come up with your own team comps for Set 12, check out our Team Builder. For a full overview on the new set, check out our TFT Set 12 Reveal Page.
