TFT Set 10 Guide: How to Play EDM

    How to Play EDM

Welcome to another in the series of our How to Play TFT trait guides.

EDM is one of the new Origins in Set 10, and of the traits, it looks to have the most unique effect. EDM Champions will periodically copy the spell of another EDM unit. This can make for some really interesting and wonky builds.

Note: The information provided is based on early information and can change rapidly in PBE. While the exact numbers may change, the overall mechanic of the trait should remain the same.

Let’s get right into the guide.

If you haven’t checked out all of the Set 10 information yet, check out out Set 10 Reveal Page!

    How EDM Works

When you activate the EDM trait, you will be able to “sample” one of the EDM units. (Note there is no Emblem for EDM) After a few seconds, every EDM champion will transform and cast the spell of the sampled unit.

This means your EDM units can start firing Lux Beams or turn into Zac blobs multiple times throughout the fight. As you increase in the trait, the cast will become more effective and happen faster.

    EDM Trait Bonus

    TFT Set 10 EDM 13.24

Use the EDM selector to sample a champion.

Periodically, EDM champions transform into the sampled champion, sampling their Attack Damage and Ability Power and casting their Ability.

    • (2) 80% stats
    • (3) 90% stats
    • (4) Casts 1 second more frequently, 100% stats
    • (5) Casts 2 seconds more frequently, 120% stats

    EDM Synergy

Here’s a list of all the traits you can branch to with the EDM units.

    • Mosher
    • Dazzler
    • Bruiser
    • Crowd Diver

Considering EDM only has 4 units, it’s unlikely that there would’ve been any class overlap. In any case, the EDM trait is very unique that you likely won’t care too much about stacking up certain traits. By simply playing more EDM units, you are creating more spellcasters for your sampled unit.

    EDM Champions

Let’s briefly go over each Champion in the EDM trait and what you can do with them.

    Jax – EDM + Mosher

    TFT Set 10 Jax

    [Link to Champion Page]

Jax is the first EDM unit and is a 2-cost Mosher. His ability allows him to potentially bypass frontline and jump toward the backline. It deals AoE damage and also grants stacking damage stats.

Jax can be an interesting unit to sample if you want to play Zed carry. This will allow Zed to jump around, deal damage, and gain more damage as the fight goes on.

There likely will also be potential for Jax to be a reroll carry as well. Mosher grants him Omnivamp which is very nice for a melee carry, and he can potentially sample a different EDM champion to gain more bonuses.

    Lux – EDM + Dazzler

    TFT Set 10 Lux

    [Link to Champion Page]

Lux is the 3-cost Dazzler, and her ability shoots a large beam across the board. She has a 4-cost ability at the cost of 3.

Lux will likely be the sampled unit when you want to play all 4 EDM champions. This will let them all shoot beams across the board as the fight progresses, and you just need to stall long enough with your frontline to get lots of value from the trait.

    Zac – EDM + Bruiser

    TFT Set 10 Zac

    [Link to Champion Page]

Zac is the first 4-cost unit and the dedicated tank of the team comp. Because there are no other frontline traits for EDM, the Bruiser trait will likely be your default frontline for a majority of the game.

Zac can be an interesting unit to sample if you’re planning on running Jax or Zed carry. His ability provides some damage, CC, and healing. These things are all great when your carry is melee.

Zed – EDM + Crowd Diver

    TFT Set 10 Zed

    [Link to Champion Page]

Zed is the last EDM unit, and is a Crowd Diver, which provides some utility CC when he dies, along with some bonus damage. I don’t expect Zed to be sampled often, unless Jax with Sampled Zed is a strong combination. Although I imagine that Jax with Sampled Zac is a better combo.

Zed can still be your main carry, and he can sample either Jax or Zac to great effect. If you’re playing a sample Lux comp, you can also try to trap Zed in the corner behind ranged units so he doesn’t die and only shoots beams every few seconds.

    EDM Best Augments

For this section, I’ll be covering some Augments that particularly synergize with the trait. Lots of Augments are universal, like economy based Augments or item Augments, but I’ll try to cover particular synergies to look out for.

I won’t be able to cover every single Augment, just some notable ones. You can check out the full list of Augments here.

    EDM Augment – Sample Synthesis

    TFT Set 10 EDM Augment

This Augment is quite difficult to assess. Mana generation in TFT is hard to assess at face value. 5 Mana every 2 seconds can be very strong, but it can also be too slow depending on the mana pool and attack speed of your main carry.

However, the more important bonus is the stacking AD and AP they get from casting. Units like Lux and Zed have mana pools below 100, making them good carries for this Augment.

    Combat Caster

TFT Set 10 Augment Combat Caster

In theory, I’m assuming that when an EDM champion samples an ability, this would be considered as casting. This can mean that EDM champions can get more shield value as they can cast more frequently.

However, if the rest of your team has high mana pools, or consists of tanky frontline units, this Augment loses value.

    Jeweled Lotus

    TFT Set 10 Jeweled Lotus

Firstly, I would like to state that I am not sure if there is any interaction between EDM and Jeweled Gauntlet/Infinity Edge.

For example, if I sample my Lux who has Jeweled Gauntlet, will other EDM champions be able to crit when sampling? My instinct tells me no, but I’m not 100% sure.

Either way, Jeweled Lotus is a nice way to scale the damage of your champions. If you have a team firing 4 Lux Beams, you can roll hot and crit on every single one and annihilate the enemy board.

    EDM Team Comps

Team comps are very fickle, but we’ll try to keep this section updated with the best team comps you can play around.

If you want an updated look at team comps, be sure to check out our Tier List.

    EDM Lux Team Comp

TFT Set 10 EDM Lux Team Comp Patch 13.24

    [Link to Builder]

This comp is what I expect a potential Lux carry comp to look like. Even though Lux is a 3-cost, the comp likely won’t look to 3-star her by rerolling at level 7. Instead, you can simply look to go level 8 to find impactful units like Zac, Zed, TF, and Qiyana.

The comp has a decent frontline, albeit a bit squishy compared to pure tank units. However, it makes up for it with firepower. We have Lux constantly firing beams through the EDM trait, and a frontline of strong melee units like Zed, Qiyana, and Zac.

    EDM Zed Team Comp

TFT Set 10 EDM Zed Team Comp Patch 13.24

    [Link to Builder]

Up next, we have the exact same team comp, but with a bigger emphasis on Zed. You can play the early and mid game the same way, and decide which carry to build around depending on what you find.

If you hit an EDM Lux Headliner, you can play around Lux more. If you don’t find much, you can simply look for Zed at level 8.

When it comes to which EDM champion to sample, you should pick your main carry. This is because the EDM sample skill uses the champion’s stats to cast. If Lux has more items and is the carry, you can get more mileage out of sampling her. If Zed has three items and Lux has only 1, you can pick Zed’s ability to sample instead.

    Conclusion

We hope you enjoyed this guide, and hopefully it helps you climb some ranks. Good luck and have fun!
