TFT Guide: Set 14 Mechanic – Hacks

TFT New Mechanic for Set 14: Hacks

TFT Set 14: Cyber City is right around the corner, and it brings an exciting and unpredictable new mechanic known as “Hacks.” Many of the game’s core systems will be at the mercy of this mechanic, so be ready to handle the unexpected.

In the new set, various events can occur throughout the game, many of which break the rules of what’s normally possible.

While we don’t know all of the details, let’s take a look at what we do know so far!

    How Hacks Work

Hacks are unusual events that come in a variety of forms, usually appearing three times over the course of a game. Hacks can affect Augments, Shops, Carousels, Loot, and more. Many Hacks are still unknown.

When a Hack occurs, there’s usually some form of visual indicator to make it stand out. For example, you may see the image above appear as an icon next to an Augment or unit in a Shop.

    Hacked Augments

There are various ways in which Hacks can apply to Augment rounds. There’s “Themed Augment Slots” , and the “1 v 2 Augment Round”.

Themed Augment Slots show Augments from a single category (Items, Econ, Chaos, Traits, Buildaround, Black Market), so you’ll have a rough idea of what to expect when rerolling through it. Whenever a Themed Augment Slot appears, players are also given additional rerolls to help them explore a deeper variety of options.

Black Market Augments is a special themed pool of Augments. This pool includes powerful older Augments of TFT’s past, allowing players to rediscover old favorites.

If you encounter the 1 v 2 Augment Round, you’ll have the choice between taking the one Gold Augment to the left, or TWO Silver Augments on the right! It’s worth noting that if you reroll the right side you’ll refresh both options. So if one of the two looks appealing, you’ll have to think twice before clicking the button.

There can also be a fourth Augment round during the game, and the timing of Augment rounds in general can potentially be changed from their normal occurrence. It’s worth noting that Augments can only ever come earlier, not later than usual.

    Hacked Shops

Hacked Shops are known as “Lucky Shops”, and will affect all players equally whenever they occur. The rate is set at once per stage, but the round itself will be randomized.

Lucky Shops contain units that are appropriate your for team, making it easier to find what you’re looking for. On occasion, it’s also possible to find 2-star units, and given the fact Lucky Shops tailor the units accordingly, there’s a good chance it’ll be something beneficial to your game plan.

    Hacked Carousels

Hacked Carousels offer two completed items attached to each champion, both of which will be from that champ’s recommended items list. Alternatively, it is possible to find a Carousel without units at all, but instead includes anvils. Overall, this should make it easier to obtain needed items if a Hacked Carousel occurs during your game.

    Additional Hacks

Even more Hacks exist, helping to reshape the way we play the game.

There’s a Stage 4-7 Treasure Dragon that offers rerollable packages of loot containing a mixture of items, gold, and even Augments (appears to be four inclusions per package). You can either choose to “Take All” or reroll until you find a package to your liking.

Another way to acquire items is through the Sentinel Armory Hack, which allows you to choose between three options that provide items of the corresponding class. There’s the Tank Sentinel, Frontline Attacker Sentinel, and Backline Sentinel.

A new way to obtain loot has been added in the form of “Hacked Eggs”.  These can appear in Hacked loot orbs, or occasionally from an Armory Hack that includes various types of eggs. These eggs have different hatch durations, with scaleable power depending on how long it takes.

As for Hacked Loot, you’ll have a chance to get unstable components that change each round, or even player health! Receiving extra health when you’re down could help buy you more time to get back in the game.

One final teaser included an interesting choice between two gold options.

    1. Gain 10 Gold
    2. Split 30 Gold With Other Splitters

This creates a really fun mind game. Do you play it safe and take your 10 gold? Or perhaps you think there’s good odds of getting a big cut of the 30 gold. Once again, this is just a single example among many possibilities.

There’s a ton of potential for some wild things to happen with Hacks, and we’re excited to dive into the game and experience more!
