Seele: Guide, Skills, Builds, Teams & More

Seele is the first-ever Limited Unit in Honkai Star Rail. A Quantum Hunt DPS with an emphasis on chaining kills on enemies, Seele has a high ceiling even by today’s standard, but is currently held back by her ages-old Multiplier.

    HSR Seele Release Date

Seele is currently an option for Celestial Invitation – the system that allows players to select which units they will receive when missing the Rate-Up units while pulling.

Seele HSR Kit Overview (Trace Level 10)

    Talents & Ultimate

Seele’s core gameplay revolves around her Talent. Upon defeating an enemy, Seele will enter a special state called “Amplification” and immediately gain an extra turn. During this extra turn and Amplification state, Seele’s damage is increased by 80%. Similar to other extra turns mechanisms, buffs on Seele will not tick down, and it will not affect or delay her upcoming turns. During this state, Seele will not be able to use her Ultimate either.

Her Ultimate – Butterfly Flurry is a Single-Target nuke that also puts her in the Amplification state (this does not give her an extra turn, except if this Ultimate kills an enemy). Despite its simplicity, picking the right time to use her Ultimate for a well-coordinated chain of killing is part of Seele’s high-ceiling gameplay loops. Generally, you will want to use Seele’s Ultimate before chaining her Skills on her targets.

    Skill & Basic Attack

Seele’s Skill and Basic Attack are both rather simple single-target attacks. Her Skill differentiates from her Basic Attack by doing significantly more damage, while also granting her 25% Speed for 2 turns, which boosts Seele’s action economy.

    Traces

Seele’s first major trace reduces the chance of her being attacked when she is at 50% HP or lower, which may come in clutch in difficult battles.

His second trace further increases her damage output during the Amplification state via increasing her Quantum Res Pen by 20%.

His last major trace gives her a 20% Action Advance when basic attack, which may alleviate her Skill Point usage.

    Technique

Upon using his technique, Seele will gain Stealth for a while, making enemies unable to detect her. When entering battle in this state, she will immediately enter the Amplification state.

    Overall

Seele is an easy character to understand, but not particularly easy to pilot effectively. Much of her damage is locked behind her Amplification state, which requires her to constantly chain kills from one enemy to another. She is also exceptionally Skill Point hungry from all the extra turns that she gets. Seele is a classic example of a low-floor, high-ceiling character, even by modern Damage Dealer standards. She requires a lot of investment and experience to pilot, as getting enough damage to get a reset is monumental to her performance. A highly invested Seele can do some ridiculous feat that many Limited Units cannot replicate, but it should be noted that most of this does not apply to the casual players.

Seele does benefit from the fact that she can make use of practically all strong amplifiers, particularly any units that can increase her turns, such as the Advancers like Sunday or Bronya. This makes it quite easy to get a working team for her.

    Seele HSR Core Skills

Basic Attack – Thwack: Deals Quantum DMG equal to 100% of Seele’s ATK to a single enemy.

Skill – Sheathed Blade: Increases Seele’s SPD by 25% for 2 turn(s) and deals Quantum DMG equal to 220% of Seele’s ATK to a single enemy.

Ultimate – Butterfly Flurry: Seele enters the Amplification state and deals Quantum DMG equal to 425% of her ATK to a single enemy.

Talent – Resurgence: Enters the Amplification state upon defeating an enemy with Basic ATK, Skill, or Ultimate, and receives an extra turn. While in the Amplification state, the DMG of Seele’s attacks increases by 80% for 1 turn(s).

Enemies defeated in the extra turn provided by “Resurgence” will not trigger another “Resurgence”.

Technique – Phantom Illusion: After using her Technique, Seele gains Stealth for 20 second(s). While Stealth is active, Seele cannot be detected by enemies. And when entering battle by attacking enemies, Seele will immediately enter the Amplification state.

    Seele HSR Traces

Nightshade: When current HP percentage is 50% or lower, reduces the chance of being attacked by enemies.

Lacerate: While Seele is in the Amplification state, her Quantum RES PEN increases by 20%.

Rippling Waves: After using a Basic ATK, Seele’s next action advances by 20%.

    Seele HSR Eidolons

    1. Extirpating Slash: When dealing DMG to an enemy whose HP percentage is 80% or lower, CRIT Rate increases by 15%.
    2. Dancing Butterfly: The SPD Boost effect of Seele’s Skill can stack up to 2 time(s).
    3. Dazzling Tumult: Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Basic ATK Lv. +1, up to a maximum of Lv. 10.
    4. Flitting Phantasm: Seele regenerates 15 Energy when she defeats an enemy.
    5. Piercing Shards: Skill Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15.
    6. Shattering Shambles: After Seele uses Ultimate, inflict the attacked enemy with “Butterfly Flurry” for 1 turn(s). Enemies in “Butterfly Flurry” will additionally take 1 instance of Quantum Additional DMG equal to 15% of Seele’s Ultimate DMG every time they are attacked. If the target is defeated by the “Butterfly Flurry” state’s Additional DMG triggered by other allies’ attacks, Seele’s Talent will not be triggered. When Seele is knocked down, the “Butterfly Flurry” inflicted on the enemies will be removed.

    Eidolon Priority

Seele has an extremely awful set of Eidolons, partly because she was designed in the earliest part of the game, where the developers were still figuring out how to make Eidolons. Her 3 earlier Eidolons are somewhat usable, but offer essentially minimal stats improvement to her compared to modern units, with her E2 having synergy with her Signature Light Cone while E4 can create some interesting Ultimate chain with the right setup. Her Eidolon 6, however, is horrendous for a Limited Unit as it is finicky to set up and has low payoff. All in all, no players should consider investing in Seele’s Eidolon, especially at this stage in the game.

    • Eidolon 1: Low
    • Eidolon 2: Low
    • Eidolon 4: Low
    • Eidolon 6: Very Low

    Premium Options

    In The Night: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 18% / 21% / 24% / 27% / 30%. While the wearer is in battle, for every 10 SPD that exceeds 100, increases DMG dealt by Basic ATK and Skill by 6% / 7% / 8% / 9% / 10%. At the same time, increases the CRIT DMG of Ultimate by 12% / 14% / 16% / 18% / 20%. This effect can stack up to 6 time(s).

Seele’s Signature Light Cone is, till this day, a really strong Light Cone option not only for her but also for Hunt DPS, thanks to how generic it is. This Light Cone gives Seele a lot of damage boost, with the caveat that Seele has to invest a little bit in Speed to fully reap the benefit of it.

With a base 115 Speed and one Skill, Seele should have 143 Speed to get 4 stacks from the Light Cone, even with an Attack boot, which is usually enough in practice, but players can invest some Speed subs or even Speed boot into her to get the max amount of boost.

Swordplay: For each time the wearer hits the same target, DMG dealt increases by 8.0% / 10.0% / 12.0% / 14.0% / 16.0%, stacking up to 5.0 times (s). This effect will be dispelled when the wearer changes targets.

An exceptional option for most Hunt units, particularly at Superimposition 5. While Seele does not have a problem stacking and re-stacking this Light Cone since her Skill hits multiple times, it does have a bit of anti-synergy with how Seele wants to switch targets often. The boost it offers though, is still very strong in most scenarios.

    Only Silence Remain: Increases the wearer’s Attack by 16.0% / 20.0% / 24.0% / 28.0% / 32.0%. If there are 2 or fewer enemies on the field, increase the wearer’s Crit Rate by 12.0% / 15.0% / 18.0% / 21.0% / 24.0%.

A good generic option for Seele in low-enemy-count scenarios.

    F2P Options

    Cruising in the Stellar Sea

    Cruising In The Stellar Sea: Increases the wearer’s Crit rate by 8.0% / 10.0% / 12.0% / 14.0% / 16.0%, and increases their Crit rate against enemies with HP percentage less than or equal to 50.0% by an extra 8.0% / 10.0% / 12.0% / 14.0% / 16.0%. When the wearer defeats an enemy, their Attack is increased by 20.0% / 25.0% / 30.0% / 35.0% / 40.0% for 2.0 turn(s).

Cruising is a fantastic F2P option for Seele thanks to its high base stats and Seele’s synergy with its second effect.

    HSR Seele Main Stats

    • Body: Crit Rate > Crit Damage
    • Feet: Speed / Attack
    • Orb: Attack% / Quantum Damage%
    • Rope: Attack%

    HSR Seele Sub Stats

    • Crit Rate / Crit Damage
    • Attack
    • Speed

Seele was the first Limited Crit-DPS and was the prototype for many that followed. As such, her gear choice is quite cookie-cutter as far as Crit-DPS goes. She wants Crit Rate / Crit Damage on her armor, Attack% or Quantum Damage% on her Planar, and Attack% on her rope. Her boot choice depends on the team setup, with Attack% boot being easier to pilot while Speed Boot is for more experienced players who can calculate her reaching specific breakpoints for their team.

    Main Stats Goal & Speedtuning:

A good rule of thumb for Seele is that Crit Rate is more valuable to her than Crit Damage. There are a few reasons for this. One, her Ultimate only hits once, putting it at the mercy of bad RNG, and Seele simply cannot afford a missed Crit when trying to get kills to trigger her Talent. Furthermore, several of her high-profile Supports give abundant of Crit Damage, making it less necessary to stack Crit Damage% on her.

Seele’s Speedtuning is highly dependent on team setup and does not have a clear Speed goal. When used with any Turn Advancers such as Sunday or Bronya, be sure to keep their Speed at lower than Seele after she has already used her Skill once, so that they don’t waste their Advance and desynch the team. Generally, having around 134+ Speed on Sunday / Bronya should be enough.

    HSR Seele Relics

    Option A

    Genius of Brilliant Stars

    Genius of Brilliant Stars

    • 2-Pc: Increases Quantum DMG by 10%.
    • 4-Pc: When the wearer deals DMG to the target enemy, ignores 10% DEF. If the target enemy has Quantum Weakness, the wearer additionally ignores 10% DEF.

Against any Quantum-weak enemies, this set grants a large amount of Defense Ignore for Seele. Several of her notable teammates also have Def Shred, such as Silver Wolf, Pela, or even Sunday / Sparkle with Eidolons, so this set will often be her best performing set.

    Option B

    Scholar Lost in Erudition

    Scholar Lost in Erudition

    • 2-Pc: Increases CRIT Rate by 8%.
    • 4-Pc: Increases DMG dealt by Skill and Ultimate by 20%. After using Ultimate, additionally increases the DMG dealt by the next Skill by 25%.

A more generic option for Seele since this set does not have any condition behind its damage boost, while also providing a much-needed 8% Crit Rate.

    HSR Seele Planar Sets

    Option A

    Rutilant Arena

    Rutilant Arena

    • 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 8%. When the wearer’s current CRIT Rate reaches 70% or higher, DMG dealt by Basic ATK and Skill increases by 20%.

Since Seele’s damage mostly comes from her Skill, this set should give her the best damage output boost, albeit not by a lot compared to the other options.

    Option B

    Inert Salsotto

    Inert Salsotto

    • 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Crit Rate by 8%. When the wearer’s current Crit Rate reaches 50% or higher, the Damage dealt by the wearer’s Ultimate and follow-up attacks increases by 15%.

While her Ultimate contributes a smaller share of her overall damage output, it is still quite significant, and in practice, Salsotto is not much behind Rutilant in performance.

    Option C

    Space Sealing Station

    Space Sealing Station

    • 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s ATK by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, the wearer’s ATK increases by an extra 12%.

Since Seele almost always has over 120 Speed, this set gives 24% Attack to her, which is highly valuable since she lacks Attack% boost in her kit.

    Option D

    Firmament_Frontline_Glamoth

    Firmament Frontline: Glamoth

    • 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s ATK by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD is equal to or higher than 135/160, the wearer deals 12%/18% more DMG.

Seele’s Skill fulfills the first condition of Glamoth by default, and she can get the second Speed threshold via teammates’ help or by running a Speed boot with some Speed subs.

    HSR Seele Teammates

Seele moves very frequently, so buffs on her can run out quickly. She highly values Support whose buff uptime is high or permanent, is SP positive, and can provide extra turns for her.

    Harmony/Nihility

Robin: Robin gives an incredible amount of damage boost to Seele that is permanent. Furthermore, Robin also gives not only Seele, but her entire team extra turns which vastly improves the team attack frequencies.

    sunday

Sunday: Of the harmonies that provide action advance, Sunday is Seele’s best partner. Sunday’s buffs are tied to his turn and not Seele, meaning it never runs out on her no matter how often she moves. Furthermore, Sunday is completely SP positive while providing Energy, both are extremely valuable to Seele’s team.

Bronya, Remembrance Trailblazer, Sparkle, and Tingyun are powerful Harmony options that can provide Action Advance to Seele (with Tingyun via the Dance Dance Dance Light Cone) and can be picked depending on the situation and purpose.

Tribbie / Ruan Mei: Both of these units are aura buffers that have buffs tied to their turn rather than Seele’s, allowing her to always benefit from their amplifications.

Cipher / Silver Wolf / Pela: Seele has fantastic synergy with Nihility amplifiers since their damage boost are not saturated like Harmony units and depends on enemies’ turns rather than Seele.

    Sustain

    HSR Portrait Huohuo

Huohuo: Huohuo gives both Attack% boost and Energy% which are highly valuable for Seele’s team, especially when paired with units like Robin. She is not particularly SP positive however, so she should only use her skill sparingly.

    gallagher

Gallagher: Gallagher is the best holder of the Quid Pro Quo Light Cone, which helps Seele’s team a lot as they are often energy hungry. Furthermore, Gallagher provides the largest amount of Skill Points amongst sustainers, letting Seele use her Skills more often.

    HSR Seele Teams

Seele is a classic Hypercarry that wants the team to cater to her. She scales well with buffs and action advance, and due to how generic her kit is, she is not as choosey in terms of teammates like many other Damage Dealers.

    Seele Hypercarry Team:

Some classic Seele’s hypercarry team, generally focused on buffing and getting as many Seele’s turns as possible. Since Seele scales so well with additional amplifiers, sustainless teams can be considered for low-turn clears. However, this is only recommended for experienced players, as Seele is extremely squishy and can force resets often if she gets hit.

HSR Seele Pull Value and Conclusion

It is most definitely unwise to pull for Seele. Despite not aging that badly and is most definitely due for future buffs/reworks like her fellow 1.x units, Seele simply is not a good investment prospect when modern Damage Dealers can do more with less. It is certainly worth it, however, to put Seele into Celestial Invitation roster, so that players may have a chance of getting her when losing Pity, since she is considerably better than most Standard Units.
