How to Play Werewolf by Night in Marvel Snap
Werewolf is the last card coming for the October season, and he’s looking to be a strong card. Werewolf is a card that grows larger, similar to others like Angela or Bishop. He also synergizes with decks that are able to play low cost On Reveal cards.
While he doesn’t slot into every deck, he will likely be a powerful card in the right deck. Time will tell whether he’s good enough to build his own archetype, or whether he slots into existing archetypes well.
Let’s get right into the guide.
Werewolf by Night Effect
After you play an On Reveal card at another location, move there and gain +2 Power.
Werewolf by Night Analysis
If we look at cards like Maximus (3/7) or Sword Master (3/6) as a baseline for high power 3-cost cards, Werewolf definitely competes. If you are able to activate his ability twice, he already becomes a 3/7, making him a premier stat line. If you can further buff up Werewolf to 11 Power or even 13, he will get out of hand.
Here are a few notes about his ability:
- Werewolf needs to move in order to get the +2 Power.
- Werewolf will still gain Power if your On Reveal card is stopped by Cosmo.
- Werewolf will move after the On Reveal resolves.
With all of that in mind, let’s go over some cards that synergize with Werewolf.
Thanos
Werewolf wants to be in a deck with low cost On Reveal cards, and Thanos provides exactly that. 4 out of the 6 Infinity Stones are On Reveal, giving you lots of cards to juice up Werewolf.
However, it should be noted that playing Thanos makes it less likely you will draw Werewolf on turn 3. This can make the deck less consistent, but Werewolf can simply be added as a potential play line, rather than the focus in a Thanos deck.
Kraven
Another card that will benefit from Werewolf is Kraven. If you can get Werewolf to move to Kraven, you’re getting +4 Power split up between Kraven and Werewolf. There are also plenty of Move cards with On Reveal effects such as:
- Cloak, Ghost-Spider, Doctor Strange, Heimdall, Iron Fist, Magneto, Phoenix Force, Polaris, Spider-Man, Stegron
The list is incredibly long, and there are a lot of ways you can go about building a Move deck with Werewolf.
Bounce
While Bounce doesn’t necessarily synergize with Werewolf, the deck can definitely run a lot of low cost On Reveal cards. Some examples will be:
- Korg, The Hood, Falcon, Beast, Hit-Monkey, Black Widow, Bast, Hawkeye, and more
Much like Move, Bounce already exists as an archetype, and Werewolf can be a strong addition. With the nerfs to Elsa Bloodstone and Angela, we may see Werewolf become the card that buffs up Bounce again.
Thor/Jane Foster
The last synergy I want to talk about is Thor and Jane Foster. Thor is another On Reveal card that will shuffle Mjolnir into your deck. Jane Foster is another On Reveal card that will draw you Mjolnir, another On Reveal card.
If you can curve out these 3 cards on turns 3, 4, and 5, you’re looking at a 10 Power Thor, 8 Power from Jane, and 9 Power from Werewolf. This isn’t including turns 1, 2, and 6 as well. While you won’t draw these perfectly on curve every time, it’s still worth mentioning.
Werewolf by Night Decks
For this section, I’ll be mainly going over some decks that synergize with Werewolf by Night.
Keep in mind that these decks are all first impressions, so things can definitely change rapidly. As new discoveries are made, I will be updating our Full Tier List, rather than update this article.

Werewolf Bounce Deck
This first deck looks to combine the Bounce and Move archetypes together and make Werewolf extremely strong. There are plenty of low-cost On Reveal cards you can play, and Falcon/Beast lets you replay them as well.
Werewolf Thor Deck
This next deck is the Jane Foster Hit-Monkey deck with a couple changes. Angela and Kitty Pryde were cut as they were nerfed quite hard recently. In their place is Werewolf, who is basically a second Bishop, and Snowguard, a cheap 1-cost On Reveal that also generates two additional On Reveal cards for you to play on turn 4/5 if you don’t draw into better options.
Werewolf by Night Counters
Cosmo
While Cosmo doesn’t counter Werewolf directly, he can be annoying as it limits where you can play your On Reveal cards. Werewolf will still get a buff in Power, but you will lose value on your On Reveal cards.
Shadow King / Shang-Chi
Shadow King is another card that can counter Werewolf as he will revert him back into a 3/3. Shang-Chi can also simply destroy Werewolf if he’s 9 Power or more.
These counters do come with caveats. If you have priority going into the final turn, your opponent may not know where Werewolf will end up after your On Reveal cards. If you don’t have priority, your Werewolf can easily be sniped before he has a chance to move.
Conclusion
Overall, Werewolf is an interesting card that fulfills a similar role to cards like Angela and Bishop. While Werewolf can be stronger than the aforementioned, he does require On Reveal cards in order to grow.
That being said, Werewolf will likely be a very fun card to use as you can make him grow to absurd numbers, with little to no drawback in deck building.
