How to Play Grand Master in Marvel Snap

Welcome to another installment in our series where we cover new card releases and how to use them. I’ll be covering new deck ideas in this article, but to stay up to date, check out our Full Tier List to see any new meta changes.

Grand Master is the newest release for Marvel Snap, and he’s definitely the most exciting release this month. His ability synergizes with a ton of different cards, and the possibilities are endless.

While Grand Master is extremely flexible to deck build with, it will likely take some time to figure out his best deck archetype.

Let’s get right into the guide.

    Grand Master Effect

    Marvel Snap Grand Master

On Reveal: Move one of your other On Reveal cards here to the middle location. Its ability happens again.

    Grand Master Analysis

Grand Master’s effect is basically a slightly toned down version of Wong. He allows you to activate an On Reveal ability twice, allowing for a ton of different combos.

There are a ton of different synergies and combos you can try out with Grand Master. As time passes, some decks will definitely start to stand out, but I’ll try to cover as many things as possible here.

    Grand Master Counters and Weaknesses

The main counter to Grand Master will be Cosmo. Cosmo will stop any On Reveals on the location he is played. This can snipe your Grand Master on the final turn, stopping your combo.

Even still, Cosmo isn’t particularly common in the current meta, but you can expect to see him when Grand Master releases.

Cards that Synergize with Grand Master

    Bounce

    Marvel Snap Beast

The first main synergy that might affect the meta is the Bounce archetype. This deck uses a lot of 1-cost On Reveal cards like Nico Minoru, The Hood, Forge, etc. With Grand Master, you can copy an effect you want like The Hood or Forge for solid value.

You can even look to play Beast on turn 3, adding some cards back to your hand. Then on turn 4, you can play your discounted bounced cards and Grand Master your Beast over, bouncing them again.

There is a lot of potential with Grand Master in Bounce, and it will definitely make the deck harder to play.

    Ravonna Renslayer

    Marvel Snap Ravonna Renslayer OTA

Ongoing: Your cards with 1 or less Power cost 1 less. (minimum 1)

The next synergy I want to talk about is with discount cards like Ravonna and Sera. 2-cost cards are extremely efficient to discount. The difference between a 1/0 Grand Master vs a 2/0 Grand Master is huge.

You can potentially look to play a Sera Control deck that can double up Shang-Chi on the final turn. Or, you can look to play something like Hit-Monkey to just make a giant monkey.

Furthermore, you can play toward something like Darkhawk and look to double up on abilities like Black Widow or Rockslide to annoy your opponents.

The core of Ravonna, Sera, and Grand Master can enable a lot of different cards, it just depends how you want to build it. However, this type of deck will definitely be countered by Mobius, so keep that in mind.

    Mister Negative

    Marvel Snap Mister Negative

On Reveal: Swap the Power and Cost of all cards in your deck.

Since Grand Master has 0 Power, Mister Negative is another combo archetype you can play. You can combine Mister Negative with other things like Arnim Zola, Knull, Jane Foster, Ironheart, and Grand Master.

In general, Negative decks aren’t very consistent, but it’s still something worth mentioning.

    Grand Master Decks

For this section, I’ll be mainly going over some decks that synergize with Grand Master.

Keep in mind that these decks are all first impressions, so things can definitely change rapidly. As new discoveries are made, I will be updating our Full Tier List, rather than update this article.

Be sure to check it out to see what the best decks are.

    Bounce Grand Master Deck

Marvel Snap Bounce Grand Master Deck

First up, we have the usual Bounce deck with the addition of Grand Master over Falcon. Falcon is quite a strong card, but sometimes he doesn’t line up super well or may clunk up your hand.

With Grand Master, you have similar upside to Falcon, while also providing flexibility in what you want to copy. The only down side is that if you have Grand Master on the final turn, you may not know with certainty what On Reveal card he will move and double.

    Darkhawk Grand Master Deck

Marvel Snap Darkhawk Grand Master Deck

This next deck tries to use a lot of discount effects to have an explosive final turn. You can play things like Iron Man, Mystique, and another card on the final turn. You can even play Grand Master earlier in the game to copy something like Black Widow just to clunk up your opponent.

This deck will likely need a lot more fine tuning, but it’s a starting point.

    Negative Grand Master Deck

Marvel Snap Negative Grand Master Deck

Lastly, we have the Negative deck. This deck simply slots out Wong for Grand Master. Wong is nice to combo with Black Panther and Arnim Zola, but Grand Master can provide some flexibility.

You can play Black Panther + Grand Master to easily win one location while using things like Iron man or Knull to win another. Just be careful not to double Mister Negative’s ability when you play Grand Master.

    Should You Buy Grand Master?

Overall, I would rate Grand Master a 4/5.

Grand Master is without a doubt the most interesting card releasing in January. While he may not revolutionize the meta, there are a lot of possible homes for him. As time passes and more On Reveal cards come out, the potential will only increase.

I would consider Grand Master a safe purchase if you want to fiddle around with a variety of decks. Even still, if he doesn’t look interesting or fun to you, you should hold off for a card you absolutely want.

Hope this guide helped you out a bit, good luck in your games, and snap away!
