LoR Deck Guide: Gangplank Sejuani (Plunder)

    How to Play Gangplank Sejuani

    Hey guys NicMakesPlays here.

Today I’m going to go over the current version of the highest win rate deck in the game, Gangplank Sejuani.

Also known as Plunder, the deck has become dominant due to recent balance changes.

If you’re looking for how to counter this deck, check out our guide, How to Counter Plunder (3 Deck Recommendations)

[See NicMakesPlays GP Sejuani deck details]

    Win Condition and Mulligans

The goal of the deck is to damage the enemy nexus every turn to level up Gangplank and Sejuani by turns 5-6.

Gangplank applies insane pressure to finish the game while Sejuani can shutdown most decks outright.

This deck wins the game around turns 7-9 with leveled Gangplank, Dreadway, or shutting them down with leveled Sejuani.

For mulligans, look for early ways to hit Plunder. Jagged Butcher, Crackshot Corsair, and Warning Shot are great early game keeps.

Parley and Make it Rain are also good in matchups where their early game has a lot of 1 health units like Elusives and Sion Draven.

If you already have Plunder triggers then Black Market Merchant and Monkey Idol are great ways to refuel or continue leveling up your Champs.

    Card Choices & Key Synergies

    Jagged Butcher / Crackshot Corsair

jagged butcher jpgCrackshot Corsair (LoR Card)

Jagged Butcher and Crackshot Corsair are your 1 drops of the deck. These cards both let you start by leveling GP and Sej in their unique ways. Jagged Butcher is a generic 2|2 that can attack to Plunder, or if combined with Warning Shot he becomes a 3|3.

If your opponent goes first you can Warning Shot and then play Jagged Butcher, then attack the following turn with a 3|3. Crackshot Corsair guarantees you a Plunder trigger turn one to level GP/Sej. If they don’t have a blocker for Crackshot Corsair turn 1 you can continue using her effect to Plunder and level your Champs.

    Make it Rain / Parley

Make it Rain (LoR Card)Parrrley (LoR Card)

Make it Rain and Parley are both ways to clear units in the early games and activate Plunder. These can be used against units such as Legion Saboteur, Inventive Chemist, and Greenglade Duo to stop early game pressure.

They also help level up Sejuani and Gangplank, activate Plunder for Jagged Butcher and Black Market Merchant, and can activate Leveled Sejuani’s effect too.

     Gangplank / Sejuani

Gangplank level 1 (LoR Card)Sejuani Level 1 (LoR card)

Gangplank and Sejuani both level up the same way in this deck but have completely different roles. One of the biggest strengths of this deck is how fast it can level its Champions to win the game. Gangplank can be used to clear the enemy board, apply insane pressure and finish the game. A leveled Sejuani can easily shut out the game.

Her leveled ability freezes the entire enemy board whenever you damage the enemy nexus. You can use Warning Shot, Parley, or Make it Rain to do this during their attack and end their turn. A lot of decks have no answers to this level up and outright lose the game when leveled Sejuani comes on the field.

Black Market Merchant / Yordle Grifter

Black Market Merchant (LoR Card)Yordle Grifter (LoR Card)

Black Market Merchant and Yordle Grifter both have the ability to nab to let you refuel. Black Market Merchant is easy to activate with all the Plunder triggers in the deck and gives you amazing value from discounted cards.

If you get off multiple Black Market Merchants you can outvalue enemies by using their discounted cards. Yordle Grifter allows you to nab while also giving you a Warning Shot. The Warning Shot can be used to level up Sejuani and Gangplank, while also triggering leveled Sejuani’s effect.

    The Dreadway / Monster Harpoon

The Dreadway (LoR Card)Monster Harpoon (LoR Card)

The Dreadway can help end the game if they answer your Champs or you don’t draw them, while Monster Harpoon helps answer their threats. The Dreadway doubles all damage you deal from spells and allies. This makes all of your units potent threats and Warning Shot/Make it Rain do double damage so it’s really easy to finish the game.

If that’s not enough then The Dreadway also gives you a Gangplank for the next turn which is likely leveled by turn 8. Monster Harpoon helps deal with enemy threats like Poppy and opposing Gangplanks. With all the nexus pings in this deck, it’s usually always 3 cost and can get great value.

    Good Matchups

Good matchups are ones that can’t stop your Plunder triggers like Elusives and Sivir Akshan. You want to aim to level GP/Sejuani as fast as possible with Crackshot Corsair, Warning Shot, Jagged Butcher, and Monkey Idol.

These decks also have units that die to Make it Rain so you can remove them while leveling up your Champs.

    Bad Matchups

Bad matchups are ones like Heimer Jayce where they have a ton of Minimorphs. The way you win this matchup is through The Dreadway. In the early game, you can level up your Champs while refueling with Black Market Merchant.

When they use their Minimorph up on your Champ then you can use The Dreadway to finish the game while also giving you another Gangplank as a backup.

    Tech Choices

If you want to tech in cards you can switch out Parley.

Three Sisters – This card is versatile and can deal with many threats or protect your Champs.

    Three Sisters (LoR Card)

Feel The Rush – This card is another alternate win condition that can help win against decks with a lot of Minimorphs or Control.

    Feel The Rush (LoR Card)

Dreadway Deckhand – The Keg can help make your removal spells more potent.
