Season 11 Jungle Changes: Items and Camps

The annual Jungle changes have arrived! In this guide, we’ll be covering the changes to the two main Jungle items, Emberknife (red Smite) and Hailblade (blue smite), as well as the adjustments made to the jungle camps.

Here’s a quick look at what Riot’s motivations and goals were with the offseason changes leading into Season 11:

Jungle Items and Changes patch notes explanation

If you want to know about all the other new items Riot has implemented for Season 11, check out our other Season 11 item articles where we’ll be breaking down all the new additions.

    Jungle Items

Emberknife and Hailblade share some properties:

    • Omnivamp versus monsters.
      • Omnivamp converts a percentage of all physical, magic, and true damage dealt into health.
    • Damage sears jungle mobs when they deal damage providing burn damage over 5 seconds.
    • Bonus experience against large camps.
    • Additional mana regeneration when in the jungle or river.

Their main differences naturally come from their Smites.

    Emberknife

    Emberknife

Once you’ve used Smite 5 times, the item is consumed and upgrades your Smite to Challenging Smite.

This Smite allows you to mark a target, deal bonus true damage to them, and take reduced damage from them.

Naturally, it’s the ideal option for duelists, carries, and aggressive invaders.

    • Champions who could use this item:
      • Lee Sin
      • Shaco
      • Nidalee

    Hailblade

    Hailblade

Once you’ve used Smite 5 times, the item is consumed and upgrades your Smite to Chilling Smite. This Smite allows you to deal damage to the enemy and steal some of their movement speed.

Hailblade is a great option for junglers that want to enable their team through utility and CC rather than damage output.

    • Champions who could use this item:
      • Amumu
      • Elise
      • Sett

    Jungle Camps

Jungle mobs were also slightly adjusted on Patch 10.23. Riot’s main goal is to create pathing diversity and to make the jungle camps more interesting.

    Jungle Camp Adjustments

    The Gromp

    Gromp Changes

    • Magic resistance is set to 20 at all levels.
    • He now has less health overall.
    • “Toad Rage” has been removed which basically empowered his first 3 auto attacks.
    • Instead, he now has “Toad Soup” which restores health and mana once you kill him.
    • Overall though, Gromp will do more damage in the early game and slightly less damage in the late game.

    Blue Sentinel (Blue Buff)

    Blue Sentinel Changes

    • Magic resistance is set to 20 at all levels.
    • Armor is set to 20 at each level.
    • Health has been reduced at all stages of the game.
    • Blue Buff moves faster now.

    Greater Murkwolf (Big Wolf)

    Greater Murkwolf Changes

    • Armor is set to 20.
    • The Greater Murkwolf now has magic resistance.
    • Slightly less healthy overall.
    • But the wolf does move faster now.

    Murkwolf (Small Wolves)

    Murkwolf Changes

    • Has no magic resistance.
    • Has more health overall.
    • Movement speed has increased.

    Crimson Raptor (Big Raptor)

    Crimson Raptor changes

    • Has 20 armor at all ranks.
    • Has 20 magic resistance at all ranks.
    • Is healthier overall.
    • Has more movement speed.

    Lesser Raptor (Small Raptors)

    Red Brambleback (Red Buff)

    • Red Buffs armor is set to 20 at all levels.
    • The Red Buffs magic resistance is now at 20.
    • The health of the Red Buff has been reduced at all levels.

    Ancient Krug (Big Krug)

    Ancient Krug Changes

    • Armor is set to 20 at all ranks.
    • Magic resistance is set to 20 at all ranks.
    • Big Krug’s health has been slightly reduced.
    • Finally, the movement speed has been increased for the Ancient Krug.

    Krug (Smaller Krug)

    Krug Changes

    • Movement speed has been increased.
    • The experience you get from killing them has been reduced overall.
    • They now give less gold too.

    Lesser Krug (Very Small Krugs)

    Lesser Krug Changes

    • The Lesser Krug’s movement speed has been increased
    • The experience they provide has been overall increased.
    • They also now give more gold.

    Rift Scuttler (Crab)

    Rift Scuttler Changes

    • Armor and magic resistance set to 20.
    • The Rift Scuttler’s health has been reduced.
    • It now spawns with a 60% max health shield. The shield will get broken if you CC the Crab.
    • As the shield will disappear if you CC the Crab, it no longer loses its armor and magic resistance once it’s CC’d.
    • Finally, killing the Rift Scuttler no longer restores mana or health.

Thankfully there hasn’t been such a huge change this time around for Junglers, but it will definitely take some time to adjust to.
