A protect the carry team composition is a team comp that relies on doing one thing and one thing only: peel and protect the carry. This comp puts all their eggs in one basket in attempt to keep the carry alive while they dish out damage. This comp can be quite good to play if you’re an ADC main, but it can quickly go wrong if the ADC is bad.
This comp relies on the ADC being very good, and everyone else using their abilities to protect them. The ADC is the main character, while everyone else takes a back seat and lets the ADC dish out damage.

Objective of the Comp
Protect the carry comps are team comps with a hyper carry who will dish out all the damage for their team. The rest of the team protects that champion by providing them with heals and shields and using all their abilities to keep them alive.
A protect the carry team composition thieves on grouping together and playing around that carry champion. As long as they stay alive, and can keep them alive, then the carry will deal all the damage for their team.
Example Champions
Top lane
Dr Mundo
- Dr Mundo will be the frontline for his team. He will soak a lot of damage and protect his carries.
- His Q is a slow, which can help his ADC or his carry reposition and escape the enemy frontline.
- Dr Mundo deals a surprising amount of damage for a tank. He can just run at the enemy and deal/absorb tons of damage.
Ornn
- He is a tank, so he can soak much of the damage for his team.
- Ornn’s Ultimate is a great tool that can be used to engage or disengage from a fight.
- All 4 of Ornn’s abilities are CC tools. He can use them to protect his carries and keep them alive for longer.
Jungle
Twitch
- The Twitch would be the hyper carry of this team.
- Abuse your Q to get close to the enemy.
- However, do not walk too close to the enemy, and make sure oyur with your team at all times so you don’t get shut down and targetted first.
Master Yi
- Master Yi could act as the carry for his team.
- Use your Q to dodge incoming damage and CC.
- Make sure you find a balance between picking up farm and fighting. You will fall behind if you’re constantly looking to fight.
Mid lane
Orianna
- Her ball can protect the carry.
- Orianna’s ball can also speed up her team, which allows them to engage or disengage.
- Depending on your team’s needs, your Ultimate can be used aggressively or defensively.
Morgana
- Your Blackshield can protect the carry and prevent them from being CC’d.
- Your Q you can be used to get picks or protect the carry from taking damage from the enemy frontline.
- Morgana’s kit has tons of tools to peel and protect her allies.
ADC
Vayne
- Vayne would be acting as the carry in this team composition.
- She is a late-game monster which means she is really, really good in the later part of the game.
- A good Vayne player is deadly and can easily 1v9.
Tristana
- She scales incredibly well, and she’ll be strong as the game develops.
- Tristana synergizes incredibly well with a lot of utility champions.
- Her E and Passive allow her to deal a ton of damage to multiple champions at once.
Support
Lulu
- Lulu has many different tools to protect her allies.
- Her W is a great tool to empower her ADC or help them escape sticky situations.
- Lulu’s Ultimate provides a lot of play-making potential while empowering the carry.
Yuumi
- Yuumi will naturally empower her AD Carry naturally thanks to her kit.
- Her Ultimate will protect her ADC or enable them to play aggressive and catch people out of position.
- Yummi can provide a lot of healing and shielding to keep her carry alive.
Tips and Tricks
We’ve gone through some champions, and now it’s time to give you some tips and tricks on how to play as the comp.
- If you’re the carry, always watch your positioning and avoid going around the map alone. If you’re not the carry, remember to stay with the hyper carry.
- After going in, make sure you peel back and protect your carry. You must not let your carry die fast or the team will lose out on a lot of damage.
- Buy items that buff up your carry! Some champions can adapt their build path to enhance their carries survivability or damage.
