How to Play the Dive Team Composition

A dive comp is similar to an engage team composition which we talked about in a previous guide. A dive comp is a team composition that can be extremely effective at getting kills and picks on targets that are overextended, or overstaying their welcome around the map.

Dive comps are pretty easy to play, which is good for solo queue as they can be picked up and played by almost anyone. Furthermore, they have some of the most versatile compositions with so many champions being played in them.

If you like any of the champions on our list, make sure you check out their champion pages on the Mobalytics site, where you can find builds, tips, and much more to help you play each of the champions on today’s list.

How to Play the Dive Team Composition

    1. Objective of the Comp
    2. Example Champions

    4. How to Counter

    Objective of the Comp

A dive comp is a team composition that consists of a bunch of tanky champions and champions with a lot of burst. The dive comps rely on diving in on the enemy, locking them down with CC before killing them.

Dive comps love to fight anywhere. They will fight in lane, around towers, around drakes and in the jungle. No matter what, if you fight quickly and engage, a dive comp will usually win- but timing is everything.

    Example Champions

    Top lane

    Malphite

    • He is a tank and can absorb tons of turret damage for his team.
    • Malphite’s Ultimate can allow him to get a 5 person knockup if they’re grouped closely together.
    • Malphite can get in and out of team fights and survive thanks to his R, Q and Passive.

    Dr Mundo

    • Dr Mundo is a very tanky champion. He can absorb damage for his team. Make sure you tank the tower first!
    • You can poke and slow the enemy down with your Q first and then chase them down while they’re slow.
    • Make sure you go in with your team. Mundo will lack damage and it is necessary that your team is there to help you.

    Jungle

    Nocturne

    • Nocturne can engage from afar with this Ultimate.
    • His Ultimate can be used as a disengage or a disengage tool depending on his needs.
    • Nocturne can deal a lot of damage which will help him get in and out of fights quickly.

    Gragas

    • Gragas is a versatile champion who can adapt their build depending on his team’s needs.
    • His Ultimate can be used to knock the enemy forward into the arms of his teammates.
    • Gragas can get in and out of fits thanks to the sustain from his Passive, and his E which he can use to escape.

    Mid lane

    Yone

    • Yone can get in and out of team fights easily thanks to his dash.
    • His Ultimate can be used from afar: engaging and CCing the enemy while also dealing damage to them.
    • He can deal a lot of damage to the enemy.

    Lissandra

    • Lissandra is a great engage Mage who can engage from afar.
    • Her Ultimate can be used to pick someone off or used by herself to protect her.
    • Lissandra has multiple CC tools in her kit.

    ADC

    Xayah

    • Xayah can deal a lot of damage in teamfights thanks to her basic attacks and her W.
    • Her Ultimate allows her to escape incoming damage and reposition in a team fight.
    • She has a root with her E which she can use during the fight. It also synergises well with her Ultimate and her other abilities.

    Kai’Sa

    • Kai’Sa can join the fight with her Ultimate from afar.
    • She is very good in team fights with her Passive and Q.
    • Don’t forget that her mobility is amazing in team fights and she can get in and out of them quickly.

    Support

    Rell

    • They can jump into the team fight from afar to start the team fight.
    • Rell’s Ultimate can CC multiple enemies at once which will lock the enemy down.
    • Don’t forget that Rell is a tank and can absorb tons of incoming damage.

    Alistar

    • Alistar can use his Flash, or HexFlash to engage from afar to start the fight.
    • His Ultimate provides him with lots of additional defensive stats which makes him even tankier.
    • He has a lot of play making potential. For instance, he could run behind the tower and knock one enemy into his team with his W.

    Tips and Tricks

We’ve gone through some champions, and now it’s time to give you some tips and tricks on how to play as the comp.

    • If your team cannot fight easily, look for flanks or try to attack from fog of war.
    • Make sure you spam ping before you want to go in. It will increase your chances of winning the fight.
    • Keep track of everyone’s Ultimates. Don’t get me wrong, not everyone needs their Ult, but it helps kill the enemy!

How to Counter The Dive Comp

There are a few things you can do to counter a dive comp in League of Legends. Firstly, make sure you do not group too close together. This comp relies on the enemy being grouped, so splitting up a little bit could be good. When having a dance off with the enemy, avoid walking too far forward. The enemy will lock you down if you’re too far forward. Finally, if you have poke, try to poke the enemy down as much as possible. If you get them low, they will be unable to engage.

    Summary

Team comps that dive into the enemy head first will always be some of the most fun to play. However, you do need to know how to master them. We hope that some of the tips in this article will help you smash the enemy and make the game more enjoyable for you. As always, you can check out our in-depth team-composition guide to find more tips and tricks to play as this and every other comp.
