Welcome to our ZZZ character guide, where we cover everything you need to know about Evelyn.

    Attack

The second half of Version 1.5 is here, and Evelyn has just released. In the story, she is Astra Yao’s bodyguard/manager, and as such, they share the same faction and also synergize well together. (Although Astra is good on many teams)

Outside of Harumasa, who was given away for free in Version 1.4, Evelyn is the first true “Limited” Attack Agent since Version 1.0. She’s definitely breathing life back into the Attack archetype, and she’s doing it in a unique way.

Evelyn is the first Attack Agent who focuses on dealing Chain Attack damage. Her kit allows you to Chain Attack more often, buffs the damage of said attack, and her Chain Attack naturally has a high multiplier.

Evelyn’s kit isn’t too complicated, but it does have more to keep track of than older characters. Let’s jump into the guide.

    ZZZ Evelyn Release Date

Evelyn’s banner will last 4 weeks, up from the usual 3, lasting from February 12, 2025 until March 11, 2025.

    ZZZ Evelyn Kit Review

Evelyn’s kit boils down to three main mechanics: Binding Seal, Burning Embers, and Burning Tether Points.

    Binding Seal

    • Buff mechanic that grants 25% Crit Rate through Core Passive.
    • Ways to enter Binding Seal:
      • Basic Attack 5
      • Dodge Counter
      • Quick Assist
      • Assist Follow-Up
      • Special Attack
      • Chain Attack
      • Ultimate
    • Using Enhanced Special Attack or EX Special Attack will end Binding Seal. (Can only be used while in Binding Seal)
    • Buff lasts for 10 seconds after leaving.
    • If you switch to another character while in Binding Seal, Evelyn will follow up with Enhanced Special Attack.

    Burning Embers

    • Caps at 16 Burning Embers
    • Gain through damaging enemies (primarily through Basic Attacks and Special Attacks)
    • Enhanced Special Attack and EX Special Attack can be used as Perfect Dodge to gain more Burning Embers.
      • As such, you generally will want to avoid using regular Dodge/Dodge Counter.
      • These two attacks can also follow up into Basic Attack 3.
    • Consume 50% of Burning Embers (8) to use Enhanced Basic Attack (EBA). Enhanced Basic Attack 2 can be used after EBA 1 if at max Burning Embers.

Burning Tether Points / Extra Chain Attacks

    • Consuming Burning Embers to use Garrote (EBA) will generate 1 Burning Tether Point.
    • Ultimate will also generate 1 Burning Tether Point.
    • Once at 3 Burning Tether Points, Garrote will now consume them to activate a Chain Attack.
    • Using Ultimate also grants a Dance of Awakened Fire State which lasts until the end of battle.
      • This state will refund 1 Burning Tether Point when using the Chain Attack through Burning Tether Points.

    Overview

Even though Evelyn’s kit is quite a lot to take in,  she plays quite naturally. You build up Burning Embers through a variety of ways, spend them on EBAs, gain Burning Tether Points, and unleash extra Chain Attacks.

Her Additional Ability activates with any Stun or Support character, and greatly increases the damage of her Chain Attack and Ultimate.

With the current roster in ZZZ, Evelyn can be played in either a Stun team or a Double Support team. Both options have shown good results, but specific characters improve her performance greatly compared to F2P options.

    M1: Dreamweave

Upon entering the battlefield, Evelyn immediately gains 1,500 Decibels. Enemies affected by Binding Seal will be Bound. When Evelyn attacks Bound enemies, she ignores 12% of their DEF. When Evelyn uses Special Attack: Binding Sunder – First Form or EX Special Attack: Binding Sunder – Final Form, the Bound effect spreads to all enemies hit by the skill. This spread Bound effect lasts for 10s.

    M2: Dance of Fire

Evelyn’s ATK increases by 15%. When Evelyn uses Basic Attack: Garrote – First Form or Basic Attack: Garrote – Second Form, the Burning Embers consumed will be returned. This effect can trigger once every 25s. When Evelyn consumes Burning Tether Point to trigger Chain Attack: Lunalux – Snare, the skill’s Interrupt Level increases.

    M3: Metamorphosis

Basic Attack, Assist, Dodge, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2

    M4: Fate’s Melody

Upon activating a Chain Attack or Ultimate, Evelyn immediately gains a shield equal to 10% of her Max HP. While this shield exists, Evelyn’s CRIT DMG increases by 40%.

Basic Attack, Assist, Dodge, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2

M6: Bond of Light and Shadow

When activating her Chain Attack or Ultimate, Evelyn gains Shadowstring Edge for 20s. During Shadowstring Edge, when Evelyn hits enemies with a Basic Attack, Dash Attack, Special Attack, or EX Special Attack, an additional Lunalux Garrote will be released for a follow-up attack, dealing Fire DMG equal to 375% of Evelyn’s ATK. This DMG is considered Chain Attack DMG and can trigger up to 16 times. The number of triggers will be refreshed each time Shadowstring Edge is gained.

    ZZZ Evelyn Mindscape Value

Overall, Evelyn’s M1 is the most valuable, granting QoL through the extra decibels at the start of battle and also giving a small damage increase through DEF ignore. M2 grants more QoL/damage through refunding Burning Embers, and while nice, is not a massive upgrade.

M4’s Crit DMG bonus is another decent damage increase, and can change her build recommendation if you invest this far. Lastly, M6 grants more damage from follow-up attacks. M6 is always a big damage increase, but the investment is extremely hefty.

In terms of value, we recommend stopping at [1+1] for vertical investment. (Mindscape 1 + Signature)

    ZZZ Evelyn Best W-Engines

As with most Limited Agents, Evelyn’s Signature performs the best. Compared to other options, Heartstring increases her damage anywhere from 20-30%. This increase in damage is about in line with other Signature Engines, so not too much surprise there.

For other S-Rank Engines, we recommend Zanshin Herb Case and The Brimstone as solid generalist options. For F2P, Marcato Desire 5 was given in the event from Version 1.4 and is generally the best A Rank option.

    Heartstring Nocturne

    heartstring-nocturne

    Base ATK: 713 | CRIT Rate: 24%

CRIT DMG increases by 50%. When the equipper enters the battlefield, or activates a Chain Attack or Ultimate, they gain 1 stack of Heartstring. Each stack of Heartstring allows the equipper’s Chain Attack and Ultimate to ignore 12.5% of the target’s Fire RES, stacking up to 2 times and lasting 30s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

    Zanzhin Herb Case

    zanshin-herb-case

    Base ATK: 713 | CRIT DMG: 48%

CRIT Rate increases by 10%. Dash Attack Electric DMG increases by 40%. When any squad member applies an Attribute Anomaly or Stuns an enemy, the equipper’s CRIT Rate increases by an additional 10% for 15s.

    The Brimstone

    The_Brimstone

    Base ATK: 684 | ATK: 30%

Upon hitting an enemy with a Basic Attack, Dash Attack, or Dodge Counter, the equipper’s ATK increases by 3.5% for 8s, stacking up to 8 times. This effect can trigger once every 0.5s. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.

    Marcato Desire 5

    marcato-desire

    Base ATK: 594 | Crit Rate: 20%

When an EX Special Attack or Chain Attack hits an enemy, the equipper’s ATK increases by 9.6% for 8s. While the target is under an Attribute Anomaly, this effect is increased by an additional 9.6%.

    ZZZ Evelyn Drive Discs

    Woodpecker Electro / Hormone Punk

    Disk Drive Woodpecker Electro S

    • 2-Pc: CRIT Rate +8%
    • 4-Pc: Landing a critical hit on an enemy with a Basic Attack, Dodge Counter, or EX Special Attack increases the equipper’s ATK by 9% for 6s. The buff duration for different skills are calculated separately.

    Disk Drive Hormone Punk S

    • 2-Pc: ATK +10%
    • 4-Pc: Upon entering combat or switching in, its user’s ATK increases by 25% for 10s. This effect can trigger once every 20s.

Currently, Evelyn does not have a dedicated Drive Disc set. Woodpecker Electro and Hormone Punk are good options, but neither excel/synergize with her kit perfectly. If you have good pieces for either of these sets, they will be solid options. ZZZ may release a Drive Disc set in the future that synergizes better with Evelyn, but that is to be seen.

For two piece sets, the difference is not major, but you can use these options:

    • PEN Ratio (Puffer Electro)
    • Crit Rate / Crit DMG (Woodpecker Electro / Branch & Blade Song)
    • ATK% (Astral Voice / Hormone Punk)
    • Fire DMG% (Inferno Metal)

The difference between these buffs are small, and depends on your entire team, but the general recommendation is in this order. Use pieces/sets that you can farm efficiently or already have pieces for unless you have extra resources to maximize Evelyn’s damage.

    ZZZ Evelyn Drive Disc Stats

With more Agents in the game, we’ve seen an uptick in the sources of DMG buffs. For example, both Lighter and Astra Yao buff DMG%, so the performance of Fire DMG 5 has reduced compared to things like ATK% and PEN Ratio.

For the most part, you want Crit DMG 4 unless you have an overabundance of Crit DMG. (Such as with Mindscape 4)

    Lastly, ATK% 6 is recommended.

For substats, things are generally the same as most other characters. Get good Crit stats, high ATK, and extra stats of Flat ATK/PEN as a small bonus.

    Main Stats

    • 4: Crit DMG% / ATK%
    • 5: Pen Ratio / ATK% / Fire DMG%
    • 6: ATK%

    Substats

    • Crit Rate/Crit DMG
    • ATK%
    • Flat ATK/PEN

    ZZZ Evelyn Teams

When it comes to teams, we’ve seen two teams perform the best. Both of these teams include Astra Yao, which is to be expected since she provides a ton of offensive buffs and extra Chain Attacks through her Ultimate.

    Evelyn Stun Team

zzz evelyn lighter astra yao team

Lighter is Evelyn’s best Stunner, as he provides a ton of offensive utility through Fire DMG buffs, Fire RES Shred, and prolonging the Stun Window on enemies. To maximize the performance of this team, you will want to save your Burning Embers and Burning Tether Points for the Stun Window to deal maximum damage. Stunning an enemy also naturally procs Chain Attacks, which are the main source of Evelyn’s damage.

    Evelyn Double Support Team

zzz evelyn nicole astra yao team

If you don’t have Lighter, we’ve seen the team of Nicole + Astra Yao to also be incredibly strong. The DEF Shred on Nicole’s vortex is a great damage multiplier. On this team, you don’t have to worry about saving Evelyn’s Chain Attacks/EBAs for a Stun Window, which can potentially make it easier to play as well.

    Other Evelyn Teams

You can follow the general formula of Stun + Support or Double Support to build another team as well. Some options include:

    • Caesar + Lucy
    • Lycaon + Rina
    • Koleda + Lucy
    • Nicole + Lucy

These options won’t perform as well as Astra + Nicole/Lighter, but can make do if you don’t have them.

    Wrap Up

    zzz-evelyn-agent-record-disk

This wraps up our initial impression on Evelyn. Evelyn marks the return to Attack Agents in ZZZ, an archetype that has long been underserved for quite some time now. In general, Evelyn will perform best if you have Lighter, Astra, or both of them. If you really love Evelyn, you can pull for her now and pull for the others when their rerun happens, but newer characters may outshine Evelyn by that point.

Shiyu Defense/Deadly Assault will undoubtly grant buffs to let Evelyn shine, but her damage with her best teams is already showing great promise even without these buffs. If you already own Lighter and/or Astra, pulling for Evelyn is much more advisable as you’ll get her top performance now.

Ultimately, what you do with your account is up to you. Hopefully this guide helped you understand her kit and learn how to build her.

Thanks for Reading! For more resources, check out our other Zenless Zone Zero Guides such as our ZZZ Tier List or ZZZ Best Teams.
