Call of the Mountain LoR Card Reveals: Aurelion Sol (The Skies Descend, Mindsplitter, and More)

Our Thoughts on Aurelion Sol’s Card Reveal Package (Call of the Mountain)

The Star Forger, Aurelion Sol, is the final Legends of Runetera champion to be revealed for the first expansion for the Call of the Mountain set.

Here are all the cards that were part of his package:

    • Aurelion Sol (Targon champion)
    • The Infinite Mindsplitter (Targon follower)
    • Inviolus Vox (Targon follower)
    • Starshaping (Targon spell)
    • The Skies Descend (Targon spell, Aurelion Sol’s champion spell)
    • Messenger’s Sigil (Targon spell)

These cards include two new mechanics, Fury and Invoke, so be sure to check out our article on Invoke and the Celestials they create as well as our article on Fury and Dragons.

In this article,  NicMakesPlays and Swim, two of our Glimpse Beyond experts, give their thoughts on Sol and the rest of the cards in his reveal.

    Aurelion Sol

lor aurelion sol level 1 reveal

    • Aurelion Sol (level 1)
      • 10 mana 10|10
      • Fury, Spellshield
      • Text – Play: Invoke a Celestial card that costs 7 or more. Round Start: Create a random Celestial card in hand.

lor aurelion sol level 2 reveal

    • Aurelion Sol (level 2)
      • 10 mana 11|11
      • Fury, Spellshield
      • Text – Play: Invoke a Celestial card that costs 7 or more. Round Start: Create a random Celestial card in hand. Your Celestial cards cost 0.

Swim: Aurelion Sol is an optional finisher vs control decks that can be cheated out early with Thresh, a few Celestial cards, and many Freljord ramp tools. He would end up being strong in a very slow meta.

NicMakesPlays: Sol could be good as a finisher in the Invoke mirror match and will give a good top end to the Invoke decks. A lot of matchups can’t deal with this.

To learn more about which cards Aurelion Sol can Invoke, head to our Invoke guide.

    The Infinite Mindsplitter

    lor the infinite mindsplitter reveal

    • The Infinite Mindsplitter
      • 8 mana 8|8
      • Fury
      • Text – Play 2 enemies.

Swim: This is a cool concept that might make sense with some Dragon synergy in the future but it’s VERY slow.

NicMakesPlays: This card provides the Dragon archetype with Fury, is 8 cost for Behold, and stuns (for potential Yasuo decks). It may not have a direct deck for it right now but it has a lot of potential to find it’s place.

    Inviolus Vox

    lor inviolus vox reveal

    • Inviolus Vox
      • 6 mana 5|6
      • Fury
      • Text – When an ally with Fury kills an enemy for the first time each round, create a random Dragon in hand.

Swim: There are still some missing Dragon synergy pieces but this card brings the promise of Fury synergy tie-ins when we have a fully-fledged Dragon archetype.

NicMakesPlays: I love this card for the upcoming Dragon deck since it is relatively cheap and can be discounted with Herald of Dragons. It creates more Dragons in hand and promotes payoff to running more Fury cards, on top of having Fury itself.

    Starshaping

    lor starshaping reveal

    • Starshaping
      • 5 mana spell, Burst speed
      • Text – Invoke a Celestial card that costs 7 or more, then heal an ally or your Nexus 5.

Swim: Like Aurelion Sol, this card invokes the high-cost card pool. It’s a great finisher for Celestial decks, due to being able to pull The Destroyer, The Immortal Fire, The Great Beyond, and Living Legends.

NicMakesPlays: This card is the cheapest way to Invoke the high-cost Celestial cards to finish the game. It can find its way into the Invoke deck and can also be used for a Ramp archetype with Aurelion Sol to heal and find your late game.

To learn more about which cards Starshaping can Invoke, head to our Invoke guide.

    The Skies Descend

lor aurelion sol's the skies descend reveal

    • Aurelion Sol’s The Skies Descend
      • 15 mana spell, Slow speed
      • Text – Deal 15 to all enemies. Costs 2 less for each Dragon or Celestial ally you have. Shuffle an Aureliol Sol into your deck.

Swim: You’ll need a total of 4+ Celestial/Dragons on board for The Skies Descend to cost 7 or less mana but it’s an absolute blowout to any midrange deck if you’re able to pull it off.

NicMakesPlays: I agree with Swim, it can be a blowout against certain midranged matchups depending on the meta and the rest of the Dragon cards we get.

    Messenger’s Sigil

    lor messenger's sigil reveal

    • Messenger’s Sigili
      • 1 mana spell, Burst speed
      • Text – Shuffle The Messengers into your deck.

Swim: This is a really funny meme concept. Doing something like, Iceborn legacy and Pack Mentality with this is probably bad but it is amusing.

NicMakesPlays: Messenger’s Sigil can fill your deck with Celestial cards and only costs 1. It has potential but also could just be a meme.

Thanks for reading! Keep an eye out for the rest of our analysis as more cards come out and be sure to revisit our previous impressions for the set.
