Beyond the Bandlewood LoR Card Impressions: Senna

Beyond the Bandlewood LoR Spoilers Day 9

    Hey everyone, it’s Silverfuse here.

Today, we will be looking at the new cards revealed today, Senna and additional darkness followers!

Senna is an AD Carry and Support in League of Legends where she heals while doing a respectable amount of damage.

Legends of Runeterra fits this quite well where Senna is the newest control tool for Shadow Isles.

She has ties to Lucian such as his death leveling her up. She also has strong ties to Veigar in LoR.

They both create Darkness which is a control spell that is a slow 3 mana deal 2 damage at its base but has a way to ramp into higher damage with its followers and Vegiar.

Here’s Senna and the rest of her card reveal package:

    • Senna (Shadow Isles champion)
    • Dawning Shadow (Shadow Isles spell + Senna’s champion spell)
    • Dess & Ada (Shadow Isles follower)
    • Piercing Darkness (Shadow Isles spell)
    • Buhru Sentinel (Shadow Isles follower)
    • Demacian Sentinel (Shadow Isles follower)
    • Watcher on the Isles (Shadow Isles follower)
    • Mistkeepers (Shadow Isles follower)
    • Ixtali Sentinel (Shadow Isles follower)
    • Solari Sentinel (Shadow Isles follower)
    • Catalogue of Regrets (Shadow Isles landmark)

    Senna

    Senna level 1 (LoR card)

    • Senna (level 1)
      • 5 4|4 champion
      • Quick Attack
      • Text – When I’m summoned or Attack: Create a Darkness in hand if you don’t have one. Your damage and kill spells accelerate to Fast.
      • Level Up – I’ve seen you slay 3+ units with spells or an allied Lucian die.

    Senna level 2 (LoR card)

    • Senna (level 2)
      • 5 mana 5|5 champion
      • Quick Attack
      • Text – When I’m summoned or Attack: Create a Darkness in hand if you don’t have one. Your damage and kill spells accelerate to Fast and cost 1 less.

Senna is a new control tool that bends the rules of the game.

Cards such as Go Hard and Ruination are partially balanced by the fact that they are slow but with Senna that changes.

This means that these cards can now be played during combat and not just out of combat!

Another interesting combination is that when Senna is leveled up Go Hard is 0 Mana.

If you play your 3rd and 4th Go Hards on the stack then you will have played a 0 mana Pack Your Bags!

    Dawning Shadow

    Dawning Shadow (LoR card)

    • Dawning Shadow
      • 7 mana Slow spell
      • Senna’s champion spell

This card as a slow isn’t the greatest, but with Senna making it a fast spell, it is one of the strongest removal spells in the game.

It is a fantastic champion spell for double drawing Senna!

    Dess & Ada

    Dess & Ada (LoR card)

    • Dess & Ada
      • 8 mana 7|6
      • Text – When I’m summoned, create a Darkness in hand if you don’t have one. Your next Darkness this round costs 0 and deals 2 to all enemies.

Dess & Ada gives me some Hexite Crystal vibes with dealing damage to all enemies.

This makes it a decent defensive option although paying 8 mana for a 7|6 is rather steep.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it made its way into a Senna deck.

Personally, I think it would be a lot of fun in a Karma deck!

The card doesn’t seem super strong in particular, but the design is neat!

    Piercing Darkness

    Piercing Darkness (LoR card)

    • Piercing Darkness
      • 6 mana Slow spell
      • Text – Drain 5 from a unit.

As a slow card, this card isn’t bad. When played with Senna a 6 mana fast drain 5 from a unit is very strong.

It is comparable to Monster Harpoon which is a Bilgewater deal 5 to a unit but can be reduced to 3 mana with a Plunder.

However, the Drain that it gives is valuable. I wouldn’t be surprised if this card became a common card in the Shadow Isles control package. Especially in Senna decks.

    Buhru Sentinel

    Buhru Sentinel (LoR card)

    • Buhru Sentinel
      • 3 mana 3|3 follower
      • Fearsome
      • Text – The first time you slay a unit with a spell, grant me +2|+1.

This card is an interesting one. It is the first time that you slay with a spell which means that this card has to be on the board to get the +2|+1 after seeing a spell slay a unit.

As a 3|3 Fearsome, the card isn’t too bad without the buff. However, without the buff I don’t see it making its way into the standard fearsome decks.

When comparing this card to Merciless Hunter, there is no comparison and that gives you a better idea of the power level of this card.

To see this card being played more, there would need to be more cards that help activate the slay effect that fit aggressive or midrange decks well.

    Demacian Sentinel

    Demacian Sentinel (LoR card)

    • Demacian Sentinel
      • 1 mana 1|2 follower
      • Fearsome
      • Text – The first time you slay a unit with a spell, grant me +2|+1.

This is an interesting card that as a 1|2 Fearsome it will likely get chip damage.

It has the same upside as Buhru Sentinel but you have a bit more time to do it as it is an earlier drop.

I could see this being a one-drop option in a control SI deck.

    Watcher on the Isles

watcher on the isles (lor card)

    • Watcher On The Isles
      • 4 mana 2|4 follower
      • Text – Each round, the first time you slay a unit with a spell, deal 2 to the enemy Nexus.

This card isn’t one that makes too much sense for what we currently have.

What I think of now is using it as part of burn decks to deal additional damage.

I don’t expect this card to find a home at the time, but most players will experiment with it in SI Burn decks.

    Mistkeepers

    mistkeepers (lor card)

    • Mistkeepers
      • 5 mana 3|4 follower
      • Text – Each round, the first time you slay a unit with a spell, summon an Ephemeral Mistwraith.

This is another fun card that doesn’t have a true home at the time, but is a lot of fun for players who love Mistwraith decks which I am personally excited to try!

    Ixtali Sentinel

    ixtali sentinel (lor card)

    • Ixtali Sentinel
      • 6 mana 4|5 follower
      • Lifesteal
      • Text – When I’m summoned, create a Darkness in hand if you don’t have one. When you play your next Darkness this round, copy it targeting the enemy Nexus.

This card is pretty cool and is a solid part of Darkness package.

It allows you to cast two Darkness – one onto a unit and the other does damage to the Nexus.

This card could be key to leveling up Veigar at times.

    Solari Sentinel

    solari sentinel (lor card)

    • Solari Sentinel
      • 3 mana 3|2 follower
      • Text – When I’m summoned, create a Darkness in hand if you don’t have one.

Another card part of the Darkness package that helps Veigar out more than Senna.

It isn’t the best Darkness card but will often be run due to the deck needing Darkness!

    Catalogue of Regrets

    catalogue of regrets (lor card)

    • Catalogue of Regrets
      • 4 mana landmark
      • Text – Round Start: Create in hand a Fleeting copy of a non-Fleeting spell you cast last round.

This card doesn’t have a home at first sight, but it does have potential in a Go Hard deck where you are able to get Pack Your Bags earlier.

It does allow for some interesting concepts and is a value generator for Shadow Isles cards.
