Beyond the Bandlewood LoR Spoilers Day 1

Honorary Bandlescout Jordan “WhatAmI” Abronson here and oh boy do I have some spicy ones for you today.

This new expansion introduces Bandlewood as the 10th and final region.

We’ve only technically got one new card reveal, but beyond that are some crazy new mechanics and tags that are potentially going to give us entirely new archetypes.

In today’s Beyond The Bandlewood reveal, we’ll be covering:

    • The Bandle Tree (Landmark)
    • Dual-Region Champions

    Let’s check it out!

    The Bandle Tree

    The Bandle Tree (LoR card)

    • 5 Mana Landmark

Star Spring lovers rejoice, Yordle Spring has arrived. This is a really interesting alternate win condition. I think its power level will depend on a couple of really important key points.

First off, how fast is the format it’s in? This card starts as very reminiscent of Howling Abyss. Five mana do nothing is an awfully big ask even for game-winning cards.

Whether you can afford to develop this while trying to stay alive will be a big question.

Secondly, in the same vein, how good is Bandle City at taking and maintaining tempo. Maybe if the region is good enough at playing the tempo game they can reliably be ahead on the board going into turn five and then drop this as a pseudo finisher.

Aggro combo we’ve seen, but tempo combo would be new.

Lastly, how many regions can we get into the deck on their own. Right now, and we’ll see this below, Bandle City will Give us Ionia, Bilgewater, and P&Z.

If you add a second base region then that gets us to five. We’ll have to see what the total looks like as more dual-region cards are revealed to gauge this card’s power level.

    Dual Region Champions

fizz dual region level 1 (lor card)

Heimerdinger, Fizz, Lulu, and Teemo are getting a rework to be set up as dual-region champions. Riot’s announcement today also states there will be more of these dual-region cards to come.

What dual-region means is that you can play these cards in your deck if you are in either of the two regions on the card.

Think of your deck as still only ever having two regions, but you can have a few extra branches on the tree that dip into the other regions mechanics and powers.

The first thought that comes to mind here is messing around with Allegiance numbers, but I’m sure that’s only scratching the surface of what we can do with this.

Clearly, if there is a Bandle Tree combo deck it will be heavily based around this mechanic as well.

    New Subtypes: Yordles and Fae

Just like Elites, Spiders, Dragons, or Celestials, Yordles and Fae are becoming their own subtype tag. This means we could potentially be looking at some synergy cards coming in Bandle City that boost all Yordles or are boosted by seeing Yordles.

Cards like that, if they are powerful enough to see play, tend to lead to more midrange archetypes, which I am always a fan of.

On the other side of the coin are the Fae which are also getting their own tribe.

This one in particular sparks interest because so many of the Fae are Lulu synergy cards. That means there may be a potential boost for Ionia or Bandle City aggro decks coming along as well.

There’s not much definitive today, but we’re laying the roots to grow a veritable Bandle Tree worth of new mechanics and ideas. I for one can’t wait to see what sprouts.

I’ll leave the full list of Yordles and Fae below and I’ll catch you all tomorrow in the Bandlewood.
