5 S-Tier Top Laners to Climb With in Patch 14.3

This list of Top Laners may be outdated. We’ve updated our list of the best Top Laners for Patch 14.4, which you can find here.
The Top Lane is usually seen as an island in League of Legends, but there are so many dominant and good Top Laners you can exploit in Patch 14.3 to climb ELO and achieve those ranked goals you set early on in the Season.

In this Mobalytics article, we will discuss 5 of the best picks you can play in the Top Lane to help you climb in Patch 14.3 of League of Legends. If you want to learn how to play any of these champions or any other champion in League of Legends, head over to the Mobalytics’ Champion Page.for tips and tricks for every champion in LoL!

Don’t see your favourite champion on our list? See where we rank them on the Mobalytics TierMobalytics Tier List for Patch 14.3.

    Vayne

The first champion on our list is Vayne. Vayne is a great champion in the current meta. A strength of Vayne is that she is a direct counter to many of the tanks that are abusing the new items. As Vayne destroys armour, she can outscale and take those tanks down easier than many other champions in LoL.

A good Vayne will use her range advantage to bully the enemy top laners and force them behind. She can gain a significant lead in lane, which can help her snowball. As the top lane is next to the new Void Grubs, Vayne can win the lane and help her Jungler secure them early on.

    Vayne Mid-Patch Stats:

    • Vayne isn’t getting any buffs or nerfs this patch.
    • Her win rate in patch 14.2 was 53.1%.
    • She had a 1.8% Pick Rate.
    • I am honestly surprised that Vayne gets banned as little as she does. She is only banned 7.7% of games. I would’ve thought it would be higher as she is so annoying to deal with.
    • In Emerald+, she was played 35,899 times.

    Riven

The next champion on our list is Riven. Riven is a very hard, yet rewarding champion in League of Legends. Unlike some of the other champions on our list, Riven requires a lot of skill and prior knowledge to truly master her. But, the more time and effort you put into learning her- the harder you can carry your allies.

Riven is a strong snowballing champion, and getting one early kill can result in you winning the lane with your strong all-in and lane priority. With this lane priority, you can help your Jungler secure Void Grubs and the Rift Herald as it spawns. In the current S14 meta, Riven has so many good matchups so she can win the majority of her matchups.

    Riven Mid-Patch Stats:

    • They are not getting any direct changes on this patch.
    • Her win rate in patch 14.2 was 51.4%.
    • She had a 7.4% Pick Rate.
    • A lot of people do not like laning against Riven, so, unsurprisingly, she is the go-to ban for many people. She has a 2.7% ban rate.
    • In Emerald+, she was played 145,072 times.

    Darius

Darius has always been a great Top Laner for lower ELO players. His simplicity and laning power are some of the key reasons to why he is so popular and strong in the lower ranks. Darius is a great champion with lots of early damage which can result in him winning the lane easily.

In the current meta, snowball heavy champions are important, and Darius fits that bill. Match that with his early game damage, and he can win most matchups without the need of any assistance. Post 6, his kill pressure and all-in becomes even stronger with his Ultimate, which can result in a further snowball.

    Darius Mid-Patch Stats:

    • It seems Darius is not getting any direct nerfs or buffs in this patch.
    • His win rate in patch 14.2 was 52%.
    • Darius had a 9.0% Pick Rate.
    • I wouldn’t blame anyone for banning Darius. He is honestly extremely obnoxious to lane against because of his Passive. This adds reason to why his ban rate is at 12.8%.
    • In Emerald+, he was played 176,125 times.

    Aatrox

The next champion on our list is Aatrox. Did you know Aatrox is one of the most picked champions in Emerald+ in the Top Lane? It’s for good measure really. Aatrox is quite a dominant laner with his high kill pressure during the laning phase. In Season 14, he looks to be a great champion as he had benefited from the new item changes.

Another benefit to picking Aatrox in the Top Lane is that he has good lane priority and can help the Jungler secure the Void Grubs and the Rift Herald. Furthermore, he has pretty good matchups in the current meta, and even if he doesn’t win them, he can still be useful with his powerful split pushing power and 1v1 potential in the mid-game.

    Aatrox Mid-Patch Stats:

    • I don’t think that Aatrox will be receiving any direct changes this patch.
    • Aatrox has a decent win rate in patch 14.2 was 51.5%.
    • Like we said, he is really popular, and he had a 15.2% Pick Rate.
    • Aatrox is one of the most banned Top laners in LoL right now, with a 18.7% ban rate.
    • In Emerald+, Aatrox was played 298,051 times.

    Yone

One of the most broken champions around right now is this champion. If you’ve laned against him lately, you will know how annoying Yone is and how he has so many tools to get in and out of fights that being countered by him feels like the game is just over for you. Yone is a very broken champion in the current meta, so why don’t you abuse him while you can?

Yone has very few hard matchups, and even if he isn’t in the best matchup, he can at least trade often and get out again with his dash. He has really benefited from the item changes this Season, which is why playing against him is a lot harder than before. Regardless of this fact, Yone’s playstyle is obnoxious and he seems to always have lane prio, so he can either take the Void Grubs alone or with his Jungler.

    Yone Mid-Patch Stats:

    • Yone needs some nerfs. But according to the patch preview, he isn’t getting any *yet*
    • His win rate in patch 14.2 was 48.9%.
    • Unsuprisingly, Yone gets picked quite often with a 7.7% pick rate. People are abusing him, so make sure you do!
    • Yone is really annoying to play against. Unsurprisingly, he has a ban rate of 12.6%
    • In Emerald+, Yone was played 151,946 times.

    Final Thoughts

While these champions are strong in LoL right now, there are many other good champions you can use and abuse this patch. We hope this article has provided some ideas for champions to play this patch.
