Skarner Skin Art Comparison (Before and After)

Skarner is the first champion in Season 14 to receive a major rework. He has been in League of Legends for much longer than most players know about the game. Skarner was originally released in 2011, and for the past few years, He hasn’t been a fan-favourite champion compared to the likes of Lee Sin or Kayn.

One of the major reasons Skarner wasn’t played as much was that his kit was severely outdated. He could not complete the duties he was supposed to perform, such as being a tank. Instead, he often had these weird hybrid builds, and to be honest, they felt like random items most of the time.

Here at Mobalytics, we’ve been working really hard to produce a lot of content regarding Skarner’s major changes. Today, we will showcase very briefly all of his skins. You can find more content regarding Skarner’s rework on the Mobalytics Blog.

    What is a VGU?

Before we get into his skins, let’s provide a little background information and discuss what a VGU actually is. A VGU stand for Visual and Gameplay Update. This includes the likes of how the champion looks, their abilities, how their abilities look (animations), their skins and even voiceovers too.

Why is Skarner getting a VGU?

In the past, it has felt like Riot picks a random old champion to update; however, Skarner is the exception. Yes, there are a lot of old champions who don’t really suit the game anymore. Their kits are basically redundant, and they get heavily outclassed by anyone.

In fact, the community voted for Skarner to receive a VGU. The options were Tryndamere, Shyvana, Skarner, Kog’Maw, and Nocturne. But Skarner won with the majority vote, 33.4%. So, even though this was done in February 2022, Riot feels like they’re in a position to finally release him.

When is Skarner getting a VGU?

The Skarner rework is already on the PBE, so he will be on the live servers on Patch 14.7. This should be Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024. So it’s not long yet until everyone is able to play him!

    Original Skarner (free)

Skarner’s new skin looks really good. I personally liked the old one as well, but this one looks a lot more up-to-date.

    Sandscourge Skarner (975RP)

This is probably one of the nicer splashes now, and he looks pretty good in game too.

    Earthrune Skarner (520RP)

I really like the colour changes on this splash. It honestly looks incredible and nothing like the old Skarner splash. Considering this is only a 520RP skin, it is really cool. It looks like a combination of Galio and Maokai!

    Battlecast Alpha Skarner (1820RP)

Battlecast Skarner is a premium skin. At 1820RP, it costs a lot more than most skins in the game. This splash art, in my opinion, it’s ace!

Guardian of the Sands Skarner (975RP)

When doing research for this article, I was quite set back. I thought they made changes to all skins except this one and the final skin on our list. The changes are very minute.

    Cosmic Sting Skarner (1350RP)

This was the other skin that I didn’t think Riot actually changed, but they did. Again, the changes are very small and subtle, but still look good.

    In Conclusion

As I said previously, I am so happy that Riot Games has made changes for this champion. I think these changes are well overdue, and it is nice to see that they are still putting effort into some of the older champions in the game. If you are interested in buying any of these champion skins, make sure you check how they look in the game so you are not disappointed in the quality.
