Season 14: All Maps for Arena Mode

League of Legends’ new Arena mode is where 8 teams of two battle each other in several rounds to see who comes out victorious. It is a unique new game mode that brings freshness to the same old League of Legends maps. There are many new things in this game mode, including Augments, new maps, old abilities redeveloped into the game, and much more.

In this Mobalytics article, we will discuss all the new maps in the game and bring you some information on how to maximise your champion’s effectiveness when playing on each map. If you find this article interesting, we’ve made some other guides to help you master Arena Mode in Season 14.

    Koi Pond

On this map, your best bet is to always hover around your ally if the flower decides to bloom and throw you around. It is best to stick close to them so you both can drop down together so you do not get split up, which could result in miniature fights being 2v1. This will make it harder for you to win the rounds when you’re at a numbers disadvantage.

But if you get split up, use the healing flowers to gain more health or the other plant to cross the wall to your ally.

Melee champions are not as good on this map because they do not have the range to hurt an enemy on another side, so ranged champions like Brand can be pretty good. However, if the tank can get over the wall (from the Blast Cone, for example), then a squishy champion will not survive long against a tank like Galio, as he has damage and can soak up a lot of damage.

    Magma Chamber

On the fire map, your best bet is to stick close to your ally and fight around the health flowers. I would stay within one another, as you will get focused by the enemy champions and quickly taken down. Fighting around the plants is crucial here, or else you will die.

Play towards the bottom of the map, utilising the bushes to help escape damage and reposition. You can also grab the plant as you’re close to it. Once again, depending on your champion, you might want to rush the enemy or just stand back and poke and have a “dance-off” while playing around their cooldowns.

If you’re low on health, you could use the bottom right and top left portals to escape the enemy.

Melee champions do pretty well on this map, but so do ranged champions. Ranged champions can abuse their range to bully the enemy down, and kite, so any ranged champion like Veigar can do well here, as can a tank like Singed.

    Frostbite Thicket

The Ice Map has many different styles of play. But the first thing to remember is to play around with your ally. Usually, I will run towards the enemy and try to pivot around the map, making good use of the terrain to create distance, which allows me to pick up the health plants when needed.

In this map, you’ll usually find yourself chasing the enemy, as there are portals that allow the enemy to escape and move around the map quickly, which allows them to pick up additional health, too.

For the Ice and Snow Map, champions with CC tools are powerful, so champions like Vi, Lillia, and Rammus can be great. However, champions with strong all-in can also be good, such as Kayn or Zed. There are a lot of good champions on this map.

    Ancestral Woods

Unlike the other maps, this one doesn’t have a big strategy. It is pretty circular, and you’ll usually play around the middle and kite the enemy away. You should play around the middle part of the map, as it has a lot of rotation options and, of course, the health pots. So, your best bet is to fight around this part of the map.

Champions that do well on this map are melee champions, as they can get on top of the enemy and lock them down. So champions such as Kayn, Zed, Zac or Rammus could be great here. Basically, any champion that can help you close the gap between the enemy champion and your own.

    Desert Oasis

The last map on our list is the desert map, which has three core parts. Usually, you’ll fight around the bottom bigger circle as it has the most room to fight, and there is a health plant that you can pick up, too.

However, this map is also one where you would pivot quite often. You should run around this map, especially around the top left side, to pick up easy health plants and create distance. At the start of the round, you would want to poke the enemy down from afar if you spawn on the top left side of the map.

Champions that do well on this map are mostly melee champions who can utilise their CC to keep the enemy locked down- champions such as Vi, Alistar or Galio. However, champions with a lot of poke can do quite well, too, as they can run around the map and keep poking and harassing. Champions like Jayce or Shyvana can be hard to fight due to their mobility and long range.

    Map Strategies

Remember that each map requires different play styles, but for the most part, you can win easily by following a simple method and repeating it for every map. However, some nuisances impact how well some champions can do. For instance, good synergy and itemisation play a huge part. You won’t win in some matchups as the enemy is stronger (that’s why you should always ban an OP champion!). Regardless, follow these simple strategies.

Sticking to your ally at all times is the best thing you can do. It can be hard to win if you are not fighting together. So try to stay near each other at all times.

Secondly, make sure you play around the health plants. Avoid fighting away from them, and try to secure them whenever possible. You can leave the fight if you need to regen quickly: just pivot away and take them.

If your ally dies, you can stay near and within the circle to resurrect them. This will let them respawn with limited health, but it can make all the difference. Try to resurrect them whenever possible, but don’t forget those plants. Prioritise the plants so you can stay alive long enough to resurrect them.

The circle will burn, and you’ll take damage if you’re outside of it, so make sure you use everything to keep the enemy out and put them in the ring of death. Use knockbacks and CC tools to force them to take extra damage.

    In Conclusion

Each of the new maps has unique gameplay potential with different barriers and obstacles to over come. You may find that some of these maps make your champion feel more powerful, but some of the maps might make you feel weaker overall. Play to your best on each map to come out victorious!
