5 Most Versatile Champions in League of Legends

Champions Who Can Be Played in Multiple Roles and With Different Builds in LoL

In a game with over 160 champions, many champions can be played in multiple roles or have different play styles depending on the matchup and who they’re playing with and against.

Understanding how to adapt your gameplay to what is happening in the game itself is key. One thing you can adapt is your build path. This is extremely easy for tanks as they can prioritise items that provide them with the stats to protect them against the enemy team’s major threat.

In this Mobalytics guide, we will focus on a champion’s build and discuss 5 champions with the most versatile builds in the game. For obvious reasons, we’re going to ignore tanks, so all of the champions will not be tanks, well, almost all of them, anyway!

Before we begin, it’s important to really note that these champions’ rune pages might change when building different items. So it’s important to look at the enemy team composition and then think about what keystone you might want to take. If you want other versatile builds for your favourite champion, head to their Mobalytics Champion page.

    Varus

Varus is the first champion on our list and a very versatile champion indeed. First off, he can technically be played in multiple roles. He is usually played in the ADC role but can be flexed into the mid-lane too. Unfortunately, I have also seen him being played in the Top lane to huge effect.

What makes Varus so versatile is that he can adapt his rune page and build depending on his team’s need and matchup. For instance, he can go full poke, lethality or on hit. If he is paired with another poke Support, he could go double-poke and dominate the lane.

    Kai’Sa

Kai’Sa is the most popular champion in the game. She, too, can be played in multiple roles, but you’ll almost always see her getting played in the ADC role, as it’s her best lane. However, you may find her in the mid-lane too.

Her build is extremely versatile, and she can build various items depending on her needs. Depending on her skill order, she will also upgrade her abilities differently too, but generally, she always goes Q upgrade first. If you’ve ever played ARAM, you’ll know how disgusting she is when you play AP Kai’Sa and go W max.

    Katarina

Let’s talk about a champion who isn’t an ADC, shall we? Katarina is one of the most versatile champions in the game and can go through a variety of different builds depending on what her team needs and who she is against.

There are a plethora of different builds Katarina can go today. For instance, she can go AD, AP, on-hit, etc. It is really hard to track how many builds she has! To fully understand the best and latest builds for any champion like Katarina, I would recommend watching a high ELO Katarina one-trick and asking them when to go each build.

    Teemo

Teemo is another champion with a unique build path, although his best build is definitely full AP. Teemo mains alike build a variety of items on him and adjust their rune page depending on the matchup.

While Teemo can build many different items, generally speaking, he is building AP nowadays rather than AD and is leaning towards a more on-hit build. The good thing about Teemo is that you can adjust your build after you’ve locked in your runes, which gives you a slight advantage.

    Gragas

The final champion on our list is Gragas, who can be built as a tank or an AP champion. Regardless of your build, he will be really strong and tanky. In team fights, he is great due to his Ultimate which he can use to knock targets in or away from his allies.

Gragas is also versatile because he can be played in both the top and jungle roles. You may even see one tricks picking him in the mid-lane, or flexing into the Support role in to certain matchups. This versatility is crucial and each role/lane requires a different play style and build.

    Final Thoughts

That’s about it for 5 of the most versatile champions in League of Legends. What do you think of our list? Are there any other champions in League with truly versatile build paths? Let us know below!
